The Eisner-award winning Iron Man is back, riding high on the biggest movie of the summer! But when an enhanced armor terror attack puts Tokyo and her citizens on the brink, it's the invincible Detroit Steel to the rescue? Halfway around the world, Tony Stark has his hands full when Pepper goes under the knife, and we welcome back a familiar face as Stark Resilient makes its first new hire. Meanwhile, the insidious Hammer girls keep making moves in the destructive game they're playing. Will the new Stark survive the trip to the launch pad, let alone ever get off the ground? Not looking great. Rated A $2.99

Out of all the books on my list for this week, Invincible Iron Man was the one I was looking forward to the most. I was impressed with the last issue and the momentum started there hasn't slowed down. I've read Iron Man for years and this is the best I can remember it ever being. This has continued the kind sharpening and focusing I enjoyed in the movies, while still keeping it planted in the comics history. Read Full Review

I like the interior scenes with Stark and Potts. Each really have a look of their own. Its the same for the other characters like Rhodey whos starting to resemble Don Cheadle who played his role in Iron man. Im not a fan of the Detroit Steel armour as it is too big and lack and any humanoid silhouette. But perhaps the thing about that armour is too show that its overkill compared to the lean simplicity of the Iron Man suit. Read Full Review

If you've already got the first couple chapters--enjoyed them, and aren't intent upon waiting for a collected volume--I definitely recommend this issue. There's no denying the convenient timing of War Machine being prominent in an Iron Man book...but it's still a great read, and works very well within the ongoing story. This is the second time in as many years that I've read a huge chunk of a series in a collected volume and then read the singles for a time...in the way that Brubaker impressed me with the larger Captain America story, Fraction is doing with Iron Man. The complaints and compliments about Salvador Larroca's artwork are trivial by this point, as they're all largely the same here as they have been since the series began. Unfortunately this issue involves a lot of talking heads and Larroca's photoreferencing is emphasized. There are also a few instances of repeated panels, a comics pet peeve of mine that is often horrendously distracting. Without a punchy Fraction script to boost it up, most of this issue is a little sleepy, even if its developments do prove to be critical in the coming months. It's one that you should probably read, but perhaps not the first one you'll pluck from the stack this week. Read Full Review

Comics Bulletin - Travis Walecka Jun 11, 2010

Invincible Iron Man has to be one of your favorite comic serials. Youve got to be indulged in all the detail. The building of the bottom of Resilient, Peppers return to Rescue, Stark bending his new line with the Avengers, and old friends and enemies returning for more (they mustve liked the movie, too). All these subplots are bound to explode into seamless, invigorating story. Fractions conjuring up something special here and its making the Iron Man title more interesting than its ever been. Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson Jul 4, 2010

This book is one of the more fabulous things to come out of the Heroic Age for me, giving me an Iron Man that (while highly influenced by the Robert Downey, Junior movie) I can at least root for, and allowing him to rebuild his business and his supporting cast in a way that will make the eventual success of the business that much more entertaining. There are some problems for me with the characterization of Rhodey and Pepper, but its less problematic than it is intriguing. Its a strong middle chapter, even if not a whole lot actually happens during the issue Read Full Review

This series has really squandered a lot of momentum and gone from a stellar, monthly must-read to a mediocre book really fast. Read Full Review
