Kamala Khan fans can rest assured that this book is in good hands. Saladin Ahmed is showing respect and care for the character while pushing the book forward in a new direction. My favorite thing, however, is that all of her supporting cast is along for the ride as well! Minkyu Jung is doing the same on the art side of things and it all adds up to a book that has quickly become one of my favorites. Read Full Review
What Kamala Khan needs is more exciting and innovative sagas to call her own, adventures that highlight her strengths and abilities and continue to set her apart from the other heroes. That's exactly what Ahmed is doing here, and it's a ton of fun to read. Read Full Review
Jung captures the tone of the book expertly in the emotional reactions of the characters. I took note of Ms. Marvel's fight with Discord where I think it is the first time she enlarges to a Hulk-shape. I came to the realization that it must be fun for a good artist to draw Kamala. Jung utilizes are variety of Ms. Marvels abilities to shrink, grow, contort and the like during the comic. It makes for dynamic fight scenes that I'd love to see choreographed in animated form. THE MAGNIFICENT MS. MARVEL #2 isn't terribly surprising. Most of what happens feels fairly telegraphed, as we already know where it's headed based on the first issue. However, it's a fun read, and it sets up the promise of an interesting adventure ahead. Read Full Review
The new issue is a solid comic and is largely enjoyable to read, but the new creative team is still missing that special spark. Read Full Review
Wasn't really on-board until the final few panels. Now I'm moderately intrigued.
A good issue. I liked most of it. The ending seemed like a bit much though, but let's have it play out, I guess.
Kamala unravels the mystery of the alien attacks and her parents' disappearance with a lot of help from Bruno. Maybe too much help; he's narrating the comic and using his magic sci-fi scanner to move the plot along. At the close of the book, Kamala's praised for her "brilliance" (among other things), and it's hard to ignore Bruno as the real source of most of that brilliance. I think story, words, and art are all good, but they're all also only ARGUABLY good. You can find plenty to dislike if you approach from an antagonistic or even neutral perspective. It's a satisfying comic if you make a conscious decision to love it, though.
Pros: 3 headed boss battle. Potential widening of scope of the series (though I loved how ground level the past two series were). Action art.
Cons: Narration from Bruno's perspective in the second issue? C'mon, let someone who represents so much otherwise not-heard-from voices get the narration for a little longer entering into this series. Also con - too-quick parent resolution.
Interesting plot, still lukewarm on the writing.
