A group of aliens are sure that Ms. Marvel is the chosen one they've been waiting for. But IS she? Something seems fishy with these aliens, and to get to the bottom of it, Kamala will embark on her first big space adventure! You'll never guess who she's bringing along as backup!
Rated T+
Saladin Ahmed has a gift when it comes to writing narration. Don't get me wrong, he's a great writer all-around, but the choice to have Kamala's mother narrate her story in this issue provides such a beautiful and gut-wrenching juxtaposition to what's actually happening on the page. The Magnificent Ms. Marvel #3 is a great continuation of an already solid story for longtime fans and newcomers alike. Though it may work better in a collected format, its still a very exciting and engaging read! Read Full Review
With each mission she undertakes, Kamalas abilities are pushed to the limit, but so far shes passed, growing as a hero and as a person. As the Destined One however, the fate of an entire planet is in her hands, making this a much bigger test than shes ever faced before. Read Full Review
With its third issue, the Magnificent Ms. Marvel blasts off, both literally and metaphorically. The "space aliens need a champion" premise is given a memorable twist thanks to a carefully-crafted parental perspective. The art delivers a bumper crop of wild alien vistas and exciting action, while the thoughtful script encourages you to look for deeper meaning. The creators have thoroughly demonstrated their mastery of the Ms. Marvel fundamentals; this is where they kick it into overdrive and make her story their own. The result is an incredibly readable adventure that will have you howling for more. Read Full Review
The tale itself is left on an intriguing note and the arc has packed a lot in so far in the three issues served up. Anyone that was fearing the departure of Wilson from writing duties on this book need fret not, for my money Ahmed is proving himself a born successor, and he has the team around him to keep me around for a lot longer. The book has the potential to be incredibly relevant to Western foreign policy, as Kamala finds herself in the middle of a conflict between a despotic ruler and a group of rebels with a name that reminds the reader of the "Free Syrian Army". I look forward to seeing this story fleshed out and watch where Ahmed takes us. Read Full Review
A fairly rote and unoriginal story is saved by the sheer comedic charm of Kamala's parents tagging along. Read Full Review
Beautiful, yet shallow, "Magnificent Ms. Marvel" #3 loses too many opportunities for its own good. Read Full Review
I don't see any problem with sending Kamala on her wildest adventure ever when the creators combine "in space" with "tagalong parents." The latter keeps things grounded and keeps Kamala more focused on her home than ever before. Muneeba's unique narration is the cherry on the top.
For whatever reason I do not enjoy the way Kamala's hair is being drawn.
Am I missing something? This issue has a positive reception, but what I enjoy about Kamala was stripped - relate-able, ground-level stories. Every point of escalation was executed well but it feels like a different character, accentuated by Jung's design of Kamala...who now looks East Asian instead of South Asian (though the layouts/"camera" placement/colors were fantastic).
Not feeling this.
Pretty much going in the expected direction, and I’m starting to worry about how naïve she’s being.
