Ashley Allen gave Dani Moonstar an incredibly strong start and the proper introduction into her first and very overdue solo series. With a story as strong as Dani Moonstar herself, this was a slam dunk! Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

The logo design for the series is a charming homage to the 1985 Alex Jay design for The New Mutants logo. It would be really cool of Dani’s series could be more of an ongoing thing. She was always one of the stronger, more interesting characters of the original New Mutants series. As she’s had a tendency to share page and panel with a lot of other characters over the years, she’s rarely had an opportunity to be the central focus as she is in her own title. As a result...there’s still a lot of potential in a character who debuted over 4 decades ago. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

Moonstar Issue 1 makes Dani Moonstar more important than ever. The idea that Asgard is only something she remembers gives her a unique quality, making her the only one who can help. Read Full Review

For fans of Dani Moonstar, this book is going to be a blast. For fans who know nothing about her, this book will catch you up on what you need to know and show why she’s such a beloved character. Few comics are perfect, and this one has some small problems, but all in all, it’s still an enjoyable read that will get you to come back for more. Read Full Review

Moonstar #1 doesn’t present the most engaging story, but it gives itself plenty of room to grow. Those who read the stories that preceded it might get more from this book, but even those that didn’t might find enough to keep them interested for the next issue. Read Full Review

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this comic. It’s just everything going on outside of it making you go “Why should I invest in this if it’s over before its’ started"?” Just make a Marvel Comics Presents or Marvel Spotlight book. This just doesn’t have the feel of going long and building for seeing more Moonstar ongoing. It’s a Marvel thing right now, where “Everything isn’t a limited series” but it turns out to become one imo. Read Full Review

Weird Science Marvel Comics - mrgabehernandez

Moonstar #1 sets Dani on a cursed sword chase blending her Cheyenne mutant grit with Valkyrie echoes, but the boring grind of exposition-heavy setup and rote undead brawls fails to ignite. Does this earn a slot in your tightly curated stack amid endless X-tie-ins and $4.99 pulls? With competent but uninspired delivery, it scrapes by for Moonstar completists chasing lore, yet demands more punch to justify the rack space over bolder solos. Read Full Review

If you like the Magik series by Ashley Allen, I think you'll like this. I wish it were a bit more independent from the other series, and I wish I appreciated the art style a bit more, but I give this high marks for two reasons: 1) Dani Moonstar is an absolute rock star and deserves the limelight of her own series; and 2) This lays the bedrock for the story. Hard to judge one way or the other as it is mostly setup. (Also, weird seeing Dani with shoulder length hair). To get braids that long you need really long hair, the long straight hair is really her trademark so why deviate from that?

This was better than I thought it was going to be. I liked her Magik in the beginning, and then it got drawn out into being a disaster. I didn't know that Moonstar was a Valkyrie. At first I was wondering why Allen was using Norse mythology, but then it made sense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZozWBOLxk0

a Cool character who I like is just dragged through the crapper with this issue. There is so much exposition and set up it's insane. This issue is terrible. Kyrons monologues are unbearable. Cancel this series.
