In case you couldn't tell, I am extremely satisfied with Spider-Gwen right now. The entire team is just so on top of their game, firing on all cylinders. The best way I can describe it is that this issue feels like the scene in the Avengers when the Hulk gets angry, and then we get the circle shot. Not in tone, mind you, but in that everything clicks into place in order to deliver the most satisfying moments in the series thus far. No matter where you stand as a reader, I am absolutely, one hundred percent going to recommend that you pick this up. Read Full Review
The issue is so battle heavy it would have made sense. But as usual the dialogue is placed so effortlessly in the right places and the comedy included with the Watchers is enough that I can get over less Captain and Gwen fight. Read Full Review
Overall though, Spider-Gwen #29 ultimately gives us what we wanted, and the moments it nails, it nails well. We're still along for the ride and where this issue takes Gwen next. Read Full Review
Spider-Gwen #29 continues to make Gwen face her own demons and this becomes all too real by the end of the issue. Read Full Review
The "Gwenom" arc has brought Spider-Gwen to new levels of emotional intensity, and everything comes to a head in this issue. Read Full Review
The climax of the Gwenom story pulls her to the very knife-edge of committing murder. The heart of the issue is a spectacular four-way fight (Gwen-Murdock-Punisher-Cap) that pulses with visual and emotional weight. Unfortunately, the presence of Watchers strongly disagreed with me. Bad enough to kick off the issue with them pointing out the key "wow, that's messed up" bit of #28; for them to stick around through the entire fight baby-stepping us through the story's meaning is terrible. Back on the plus side, the twist ending points us in a wild new direction I can't wait to explore.
Dreadful art.
