Apr 06, 2023Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones #2 continues an engaging storyline that is a must-read for Spider-Gwen fans. While it is light on the action sequences, it offers a look at Spider-Gwen's inner thoughts and develops Gwen-Ock. Unfortunately, Sand-Gwen gets the short end of the stick, but I feel she and the rest of the Gwens will get their moment as the series progresses. The bright, fluid art ties the story together, as it adds more humanity to the characters. Read Full Review

Apr 07, 2023Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones #2 is a great continuation of the miniseries, giving us some great moments between Doc Ock Gwen and Spider-Gwen. The two play off each other in fun ways and its a blast watching them battle Sandgwen together. Though Im not sure the concept of the miniseries will last, for now its a great ride. Recommended. I don't know if Emily Kim was handed this assignment or she pitched this to Marvel, but it really doesn't feel like this book was made with any real passion for the character or her world. I don't think the creators dislike any of these characters, I just think you could make this a story about any character and it would not change in Spider-Gwen's absence. It's still a pretty by-the-numbers story, and I still sneer at the premise. But there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the storytelling, verbally or visually, and the by-play between the two Gwens has some laudable heart and insight. Their interactions are the hook that I so desperately needed to engage with this series. Hooray!
