SPIDER-MAN: THE LOST HUNT #5is a solid trip down memory lane that does some interesting things with its characters with a thematic plot that, sadly, holds zero weight on it's own thanks to it's instantaneous invalidation by future stories. Read Full Review
While there is a lot about this issue and this story that feels tied up a little too neatlyand, if I'm being honest, I feel like this story would have worked so much better had Peter Parker just not been part of it in the end because the story of Orisha and her son is just so much better when it's just the two of thembut it's still a pretty solid tale and a satisfying conclusion. Give this man (DeMatteis) everything he wants. He shits gold.
This was an effective wrap up to this miniseries. It had a lot to do, but nothing went awry here. If you don't mind a Spider-Man comic without much Spider-Man in it, you will be cool with this. If you want a more traditional tale, I could see why this wouldn't live up to expectations.
This is a thoroughly satisfying (if not exactly shocking) end to the series. I can't fault the plot or character developments; the content here is great. The storytelling wasn't really in line with my tastes, though. My usual antipathy to Mr. DeMatteis' prose style is in play, and I didn't see much memorable stuff in the art.
None of which is to say the storytelling is *bad* at any point, just not quite my cup of tea.
