The pacing for this showdown has been a steady calculated pace, but Ewing and Foreman made it well worth the wait. Ultimates 2 is on another level with galactic level events occurring. I'm not even sure if these were obscure Marvel characters or characters Ewing made up for world building. We are getting peak storytelling right here, y'all. Read Full Review
Ultimates 2 #4 really shook up everything you thought you knew was going on or going to happen. That is the most you can ask for from a cosmic story like this. Ultimates pushes boundaries and continues to do so with each passing issue. If you want refreshing storytelling then you should look nowhere else but to the Ultimates. Read Full Review
This issue needed to deliver because the last two issues were spent building towards this. It did and has redirected the series to the next part. A little bit slow perhaps, but this issue did its job. Read Full Review
Ultimates2 #4 ramps up the action while simultaneously hastening the narrative's momentum and further defining many of the different characters in the cast. It's a nice little payoff package that sets the stage for further events at the same time. The art is better than it's been since the first issue, but still struggles to match the consistency of the story. Read Full Review
I still do though, but maybe you should pick this up in trade paperback instead of buying all the single issues. Read Full Review
Even though, for some reason, Travel Foreman's pencils have been nowhere near as good as he is capable, ULTIMATES2 has been outstanding and so much fun. Issue #3 had been the best, yet. Aside from the, usual, great story and writing abilities of Al Ewing, this issue had the Ultimates battle the Troubleshooters...finally. I loved, LOVED, Marvel's New Universe and these Troubleshooters (Justice, Spitfire, Psi-Force...) and their references to the White Event are pure nerd candy for me. That said, this ULTIMATES2 would be a great book even without these updated versions of some classic ideas. Al Ewing needs to head up the inevitable return of the FANTASTIC FOUR when it happens.
SCORE: 8.8
Not a fan of the Troubleshooters but I love the idea of Logos
The Troubleshooters give the Ultimates some real trouble while Logos does the same to Galactus. (And some of the Marvel universe's endangered Celestials.) This issue is exactly the killer action scene I needed to start appreciating the Troubleshooters. I'm even coming to terms with Travel Foreman's art. I can see good reasons for it to look the way it does, but I still can't go so far as to call it attractive or easy on the eyes.
Now that felt a little bit more like a comic book, hopefully with a significant impact on the universe.
