You Don't Read Comics - David Harth
Dec 16, 2020Wolverine: Black, White, And Blood #2 is a bit of a step back from the first issue but still very entertaining. Claremont and Larocca are the MVPs, but the other two stories have their moments, even if they aren't perfect. The art is very good but falls a bit short of the last issue. Weird Science Marvel Comics - Aaron Anderson
Dec 16, 2020In the last issue you had Wolverine slaughtering many men, blood everywhere. You had him going against Wendigo and that was a brutal fight, (with blood everywhere), Hydra agents (with blood everywhere), would be assassins (with blood everywhere). It wasn't just blood they used to highlight the red. They put it in foreground, background, the surround sound everywhere. Plus the stories in last issue felt fresh. These stories felt like the same old recycled material that have plagued Mutant lead titles for awhile before Dawn of X. Read Full Review

Wolverine vs. Sabretooth, Wolverine vs. Arcade, Wolverine & Shadowcat vs. some crappy one-shot supervillains. This is a notable downturn after the previous issue. What really stood out to me is that none of these artists (with the exception of Kev Walker) seemed to have the slightest idea how to tell an effective black and white story. The first script was a cliche ball, the last one was an off-putting wad of Asian fetishization. In between, Saladin Ahmed delivered a decent but very brief deathtrap scenario.

The first story was fine. It could've been better if not for Greg Land drawing it. He's a weight dragging down everything he works on. The second story has the best art and writing. It's a fun little Arcade story. The third story is kind of a mess in both art and writing. This second issue overall is not as good as issue one, but given the creative teams for the next issue, I'm hoping that that one will be better.

Marvel continues to drive Claremont's legacy in the ground every time they give him something to write, he should quit while he's ahead.
