A 1 is a really low rating. But we are far from quality, Krakoa and anything I might want out of an X-men book. Daniel is a very inconsistent artist. Some of his Batman work is great. Some of it very rushed. Unfortunately this looks rushed. Time to sit this out until the next restart. Maybe get Hickman or Carey to write them out of this mess and into a new status quo

But my expectations were roundly blown away here. "Age of Revelation" disappointed a lot of readers, but this issue actually uses the main idea behind it Cyclops of the future switching places with the present version much better than Amazing X-Men #1-3 did. Cyclops has been having a renaissance, and this issue plays off that beautifully because this is Cyclops' story right from the start. Read Full Review

The story moves along at a frustrating pace, and too much of Jed MacKay's X-Men has been dedicated to future set-up rather than current stories, but the issue does contain intriguing elements that could make or break the Age of Revelation event. Jan 21, 2026I was definitely wary about reconnecting with the X-Books after the big event that I did not read, but this series has so far handled it well. It picks up where we left off, throws us a curveball, and runs with it. I'm curious to see how far it'll go, but already dreading that those foolish 3K characters are back next issue. They're one of the least interesting parts of the series so far to me. Anyway, this was better than I expected with some solid artwork and a great approach for how this Future Scott is going to handle his time here. Since I have no clue how the event played out, I'm basically in his shoes in terms of understanding, so that makes it easy to run alongside what he's experiencing while everyone else is just desperate to get their Scott back. This is not good. Very little story in this issue. Artist is not at his best. Characters are acting out of character. Some of Scott's dialogue is extremely out of character. Even for a Scott that is from ten years in the future.

Either I just had a stroke or nothing in this book makes any sense. Cyclops shouldn't even be capable of wielding Magik's sword, and this is just the most obvious oversight when it comes to X-Men history and consistent characterization. I won't even mention the bad storytelling decisions and anticlimactic scene transitions, since those are just the bare minimum of bullshit I have come to expect from a Jed McKay book. To make things worse, Tony Daniel used to be good, but his style is almost unrecognizable here. It's obvious Marvel wanted a big name artist to save the line, but it looks like Daniel only put in the minimum effort.
