The trials are complete in X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #4, and the correct victor is chosen. This is a good finish to a miniseries that has felt like the '90s as they come, adequately bridging the Krakoan era with the From the Ashes era. The series has done a fabulous job blending what we know while paving the way for something brand new. Boy, is it exciting to be an X-Men fan these days! Read Full Review
X-Men: Heir Of Apocalypse #4 is a nice finale to the mini-series and it'll have ramifications for a while. While some of it was predictable due to other series, the ending wasn't totally clear. It sets things up nicely for what's to come promising a lot of drama and a new player for the X-Men to contend with. Read Full Review

I really enjoyed this mini series. Apocalypse is my second favorite villain behind Magneto and while I enjoyed his semi-face turn during the Krakoa era, it's good to see him back to his villainous ways. His choice is surprising from a logical standpoint, but it will be very interesting to see where they go with this. I like how they teased the obvious choices, dropped some out while leaving less obvious choices that made me go "huh, they'd be a good option too actually!" and then went with the LEAST obvious choice of all. Good stuff, good writing, great art. Loved it.
The ending really was a whimper.
Honestly, I don't fully know how to feel about this. This issue itself is "fine," but I wasn't super into the ending. Spoiler warning, but I'm not super into basically making Cypher Apocalypse, but yellow and also smaller. I don't know, hopefully it gives way to something good.
