This issue is definitely the start of something much larger. It also feels like classic Ninjak which if you were a fan of the previous run may or may not be a good thing. As a fan of classic Ninjak and the previous Matt Kindt run this was fine for me. If you've never read an issue of Ninjak before and are a fan of hard hitting and hack and slash action then this is as good a place as any to start reading. Although I'm sad to see this one come to an end, it's not like the character of Ninjak is going anywhere. If anything Ninjak is going to be everywhere over the next year or so with the Rapture mini series, a new ongoing series later this year and at some point the web series Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe will drop. So we won't be at a loss for Ninjak. With that being said this book has been one of my favourites this year and if not for the excellent Bloodshot Reborn, would have been my top book. With a nod toward humanity facing some pretty dangerous things that we've gotten a look at in past Ninjak issues, focusing on how mankind is going to fight back in secret isn't a surprise, nor that it'll be coming from non-governmental facilities. Ninjak puts Colin back on the job in a decent way here, though I would have liked to have seen more of what had gone on between the last issue and this one with how Colin is situated now. Maurer and Cafu put together a solid book here that's setting things up well and shows their style and intent. It's one that feels more grounded toward what Ninjak should be like at times while still allowing for the more fantastical elements. I'm curious to see where it'll go and how the structure of it will work compared to what we've had so far and to see what Maurer can bring new to the table for Colin. Read Full Review

Ninjak #27 is what I've been aching for a while now. It feels like in some ways an ode to action films panning the 80's and 90's. But also I got a Metal Gear Solid vibe as well. But strongest of all was the GI JOE movie from 1987, which I rented every chance I got as a kid. Speaking of kids, this is a perfect comic to introduce young readers to.
