Dead Hand is shaping up to be one of Aric's toughest battles yet. It's amazing how this book's stories keep raising the bar. They're epic and a great ride. What made this issue so good was the emotional aspects between Aric and the Vine. Venditti, Bernard, Winn, and Reber are really pushing the limit with this series and while it is not new reader friendly, it's worth catching up. I highly recommend this issue. Read Full Review
So far the Dead Hand story is shaping up to be a monumental success for Valiant. Maybe with the advent knowledge of there being other X-O suits maybe we'll get X-O Corps. Here's hoping. Read Full Review
X-O Manowar #35 is a proper start for big things to come when a greater threat comes in the wake of one which already took so much from Earth. This may not be event worthy, but certainly still a big story which should bring up past feelings which can only be felt knowing that nothing good can really come out of what the Armor Hunters unleashed. This chapter of the Dead Hand sets up for something even bigger in both size and scope. The Armor Hunters machines move on after their destruction and their new destination is going to put Aric at the forefront of an epic battle. Even though Aric has a personal stake at what's to come, Venditti makes sure that Aric also remembers the Vine and the casualties that took from Dead Hand. Aric protects his own but also defends even those who once enslaved him and his people. X-O Manowar is a universal hero and Venditti continues to raise the bar for what it means to be a hero. The "Dead Hand" story is a sequel of the "Armor Hunters" storyline from last year, but it feels much tighter, more focused and definitely isn't lacking in action. X-O Manowar continues to be Valiant's flagship title for a reason! Read Full Review
This arc is coming along beautifully as it slowly ramps its way up to the confrontation with the main antagonists. I can't help but feel we've been here before but nonetheless I'm looking forward to this particular confrontation. Read Full Review
As the second chapter of a longer story, this was a fitting place for Venditti to display the power of the new foe. It had to be something big in the wake of "Armor Hunters," and decimating the Vine was a clear sign that this is an adversary with whom to be reckoned. Moving forward, the challenge is maintaining a threat that large for the remainder of the story, but this has been a book that has consistently shown it knows how to raise the stakes in exciting ways. X-O is ready for revenge, but what is the mental state of the Vine Priest? Given his tragic reaction, one could see him lean in for revenge or collapse into the arms of the Dead Hand, as he has now found that the god he worshipped, Shanhara, is but one of many in the universe. Though it's only part of a longer story, "X-O Manowar" #35 is still easy enough to jump into thanks to a fast-paced script and clear storytelling. Read Full Review
A few, likely nit picked panels does not take away from the story that Venditti and company are building towards. While, certainly, the art might not be at exactly the same level that has been maintained for so long, it still stands up against the vast majority of other books on the shelves.X-O Manowar, even though it has some competition in a few of the other titles Valiant has been producing lately, is still the crown jewel of the Valiant lineup and it's still most certainly a book that you need to be reading. Now is the time to jump into the Valiant Universe, folks, so jump in! Read Full Review
Man this is a heartbreaking issue, I actually feel really bad for the Vine. I want retribution, I want to see the Dead Hand burn!
Loving this series. Can't believe they destroyed The Vine homeworld.
Now I want a Battlestar Galactica style book starring the Vine.
