X-O Manowar has faltered before, others have paid the price, but never on this scale and that's saying a lot when it comes to what Venditti has put Aric through prior to Dead Hand. X-O Manowar #34 is a fast-paced issue with plenty of action and emotional drama. As Valiant's flagship title it continues to set the standard and rarely has any superhero title had the consistency that Venditti has maintained throughout X-O Manowar‘s run. X-O Manowar #34 is an exciting issue that ties the recent Armor Hunters event to the survival of Loam, the Armor's homeworld. It was pretty cool to see them back in action briefly, even if it was just a flashback. It made the arrival of Dead Hand on Loam even more foreboding, and its activities more intriguing. And once Aric got involved the action was even more entertaining. However, Aric's portrayal regarding his wife was really perplexing nor did this issue clarify any connection to Aric's past like Shanhara was attempting to show him. But I'm looking forward to next issue and seeing more of who or what is Dead Hand, and I can't wait. Read Full Review

Not only this, but challenge Aric in a way that might give us a better understanding of what it is the armor is, and the lengths the Armor Hunters will go to make sure the presence of the armors in the galaxy is eradicated. Both Reber and Winn add amazing depth and layers to the pencil work of Diego Bernard and their fantastic contributions can'tgo overlooked. Really,X-O Manowar continues to be the crown jewel of Valiant, even if other books are starting to creep up on it, and it's due to the work of all the people involved. From the mastermind Venditti to the current art team, and of course the teams that have come before them, this is a series that just keeps changing and evolving and raising the bar every time out. I don't want to get into too much more but the interesting part of this enemy is how totally detached it is from emotion while our Manowar is almost entirely emotion. He's hotheaded and eager for confrontation. He almost revels in it. The series has shown him evolve from someone who was combat avoidant to someone who is very comfortable in battle, perhaps only comfortable in battle. But here he comes across an enemy that judges him unnecessary to engage so it doesn't. It just moves on and he can't provoke a fight out of it. He can't get any kind of response that isn't a direct answer to his inquiry. It will not confront him simply because it doesn't see a point in it. It does not NEED to confront him whereas he NEEDS to confront it. It is also the size of a planet so it will be interesting to see how the battle plays out. Manowar is a very powerful being but can he take on a planet sized chunk of robots? I guess we'll find out. Read Full Review

Looks like Robert Venditti has another hit on his hands. The opening of Dead Hand is pretty fantastic and a great start to a story for people who have been reading X-O MANOWAR since the start. Sadly, this book won't play too well to new readers because they're going to miss out on a bit of the emotional connection with some of these characters. However, X-O continues to be Valiant's top book, month after month, and that's saying quite a bit especially with DIVINITY, THE VALIANT, and IMPERIUM being fantastic series as well. “X-O Manowar #34″ is an explosive start to a new arc. It's clear that Valiant has a lot of plans for its 25th anniversary, and Dead Hand will undoubtedly be one of their most exciting works for it. Aric has definitely dealt with high stakes since obtaining the armor, but after this issue, it's safe to say that he has never encountered anything this dangerous. Once again, this is another issue that is friendly to new readers, and I recommend it to anyone wanting to add to their superhero reading list. This series has been somewhat slow lately, but it looks like it's heading in the right direction once more. I look forward to seeing where this arc goes from here. Read Full Review

I don’t know what I would think of this comic if I were a long time reader, but as a new-comer, this issue didn’t hook me as much as I wanted it too. Though, there are still some really good ideas spread throughout this comic. Dead Hand, is an extremely appealing villain force and his (their?) sheer power is displayed with great weight. Aric seems a little less aggressive than usual and something friggin' devastating happens that is sure to shake him, I wonder this destruction is indeed as bad as it looks.
