Excellent work from Johns and Van Sciver, I recommend everyone who liked this to also read The Flash #8 from 2010 by Johns and Kolins, that's the best Thawne origin story, period!

Flash: Rebirth is an epic comic book that follows the return of Barry Allen. It draws heavily on established lore, so it feels more like a continuation of Barry Allen’s entire history than a self-contained story. Still, it’s a very entertaining adventure. Its strongest aspects are Eobard Thawne as an obsessive villain once again, and the spectacular artwork by Ethan Van Sciver.
P.S.: Eobard Thawne is easily the biggest hater in DC Comics—just throw him into the sun while he’s powerless. -

Mr. Johns knew he was writing an unnecessary and character-ruining story and he succeeded beyond any imagination in that, so much so that till this day The Flash's writers try to follow his example and they too mostly succeeded in that. You should give props to an influence like that.
