Perfect annual. Seriously flawless. Builds onto the story with new plot developments, new character developments, and excellent execution. The method through which Lemire showcased a wide variety of artists without it causing a bump in world immersion was brilliant. I loved this issue so much!
Illustrated by an all-star slate of guest artists, this oversized anthology issue features five Black Hammer stories from Jeff Lemire, each focusing on one of the stranded heroes. See how Dustin Nguyen, Emi Lenox, Nate Powell, Matt Kindt, and Ray Fawkes take on tales about Abraham Slam, Golden Gail, Colonel Weird, Barbalien, and Madame Dragonfly.
GOOOOOOOSH I love this world so much. Each issue adds more layers of mystery while delivering bits of answers to previous puzzles. Furthermore the character development has far exceeded my unreasonably high expectations leaving me simply shocked that more people aren't reading this.
Madame Dragonfly has been harboring dark secrets for hundreds of years, keeping them locked up in the mysterious Cabin of Horrors. Now that her cabin is trapped on Black Hammer Farm, the only secrets she can collect are the broken hearts of small-town folk. But the arrival of a new visitor to the farm will change everything.
As Lemire introduces more details into the characters we've come to love, he expertly weaves in additional mystery at the same time. This masterful writing continues to leave me desperate for the next issue.
Of the exiled heroes, only Colonel Weird can leave the mysterious farm where they've spent the last ten years. But the confusion of the Para-Zone may hamper their escape more than it helps!
In the forties, Abraham Slam faced such menaces as the psychedelic Florist and the eldritch Cthu-Lou without breaking a sweat. But keeping the heroes of Black Hammer Farm from each other's throats when his girlfriend comes to dinner proves far more perilous! Meanwhile, the Black Hammer's daughter uncovers new clues to the exiled heroes' disappearan...
Long before Spiral City's greatest heroes were written out of their universe, the Martian champion Barbalien was already stranded far from home. Disguised as churchgoing Mark Markz in the timeless farming community where the heroes find themselves trapped, Barbalien faces a terrifying personal decision, even as he relives his painful past!
The Golden Age heroes of Spiral City have been "erased" from existence! Banished years ago to a timeless farming community, the team are torn between accepting their fate and finding a way home! Chapter 2 focuses on child hero Golden Gail, whose unaging body most deeply feels the tragedy of their new lives.
Such a wonderful story. Would never have expected to fall for such an eclectic group of heroes. If you enjoy mystery, drama, and obscenely lovable characters, do NOT miss this!
A new story from the prodigious brain of Jeff Lemire (Descender), amazingly realized by Dean Ormston (The Sandman) and Dave Stewart (Hellboy)!
Once they were heroes, but that age has long since passed. Banished from existence by a multiversal crisis, the old champions of Spiral City-Abraham Slam, Golden Gail, Colonel Weird, Madame Dragonfly...

Spinning out from Marguerite Bennett's hit new series Animosity is this special one-shot, illustrated by American Monster's very ...
Far too many stretches being made in these later issues. I know that might sound absurd given the acceptance of a world in which all animals suddenly communicate, but there still needs to be coherence within the character's actions. I'm finding less and less of that as these issues progress.
When Jesse is abducted by humans, Sandor, her faithful and protective Bloodhound, will cut a swath of blood and bone through everything that stands in his path to find and rescue his beloved friend
From the writer of INSEXTS, BOMBSHELLS, and A-FORCE and artist of SUPERZERO.
No no no. Okay, I'm going to have to give some spoilers to properly critique this: I realize that we are in a universe where animals have gained human level consciousness and speech, but why the hell does a lammergeier spit fire and/or acid? They have a highly acid stomach, however so do most animals, yet none spit fire. And the human-suit worn by the animals? Are they Muppets now? This is just utmore
