Smith is able to imbue his own style with the same sensibilities that drive Mignola's own art style, giving this a visual consistency that lets it sit along classic Hellboy titles. Read Full Review

Smith delivers some beautifully detailed and visually thrilling art on every page of the issue. Not only are the moments between Hellboy and Anastasia engaging, but the darker moments with Delilah are visually compelling as well. Read Full Review

Hellboy in Love #5 sputters to an end with a tight but very anti-climatic conclusion to a series that shows more promise as an ongoing than it does a mini-series. Overall, the series was very strong and this lackluster ending doesn't take away from the near-perfection seen in other issues. Read Full Review

This series has been pretty fun overall and I like that we basically got two different storylines of different lengths across it. This second story was a bit shorter and felt a little more unfocused overall but it set up things nicely when it comes to Anastasia and Hellboy as well as what they'll be facing down the line as well. I definitely enjoy the way these two interact with each other and how they flirt and engage in everything so there's a lot to like with it which helps to balance the slightly less interesting story. Hellboy's nods toward his past marriage was also an amusing bit just in how it's presented. The book once again looks great as I expected as Smith and O'Halloran deliver consistently throughout the run and it's good fun overall. Read Full Review

    Razorfine - Alan Rapp Jul 27, 2023

Hellboy in Love #5 is a fitting end to the mini-series which, surprisingly, doesn't end in the tragic death of Anastacia or her split from Hellboy. If anything, their final adventure here brings the pair even closer together. Knowing his later history, we can guess the end of their search together won't end happily ever after, but here at least they do get a happy ending. Read Full Review

Hellboy in Love #5 is a mostly above-average issue with a few problems that bring it down. Even after five complete issues, the romance seems underdeveloped and the story doesnt come to a satisfying conclusion. But, the atmosphere of the comic does help in pulling itself from being just an average comic issue. The writers and the artists understand that the simplicity of the plot allows them to weave an atmosphere that would improve the quality of the comic significantly. Read Full Review
