The deeper into Fort Fox Wally West goes, the more mysteries appear for him to chase. And whose voice is that calling to him?
I've really appreciated the way Lemire has done truly unique things with the way Wally's powers manifest. It takes on an element of cosmic horror as he seems to be shifting back and forth in time an interesting new wrinkle for a kid who barely understands what he can do yet, with no mentor to guide him. Absolute Flash #10 brings twists and turns that not even Wally West can avoid. Jeff, Adriano, Nick, and Tom continue to add layers and bring excitement to this story in a flashy and clever manner. Read Full Review
This issue very much feels like it is working toward a resolution for the opening story arc, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. I'm particularly enjoying the Rogues and how they operate as a largely neutral party, siding with whatever benefits them most at any given moment. That sense of shifting allegiance makes them feel unpredictable without turning them into outright villains. Read Full Review
Despite its shortcomings, I found the tenth issue of Absolute Flash to be one of Lemires best works in recent memory. Each of the principal characters, especially Wally himself, is given enough time to shine without bogging the issue down in side stories. Unfortunately, the issue moves at a pace much faster than the rest of the issues so far, leading to a feeling of jet lag as the reader waits for the story to catch up with the writing. I think one of the things that I've really enjoyed about Absolute Flash since its beginning is the way it's built its characters, something that is on display in this issue. I love Wally and Grodd, but there's something about Captain Cold that I find magnetic; he's so competent and in control that he draws the eye whenever he's on the page. Absolute Flash's Rogues have been a highlight since the beginning, and this issue uses them to perfection. Trickster remains the VIP; Jesse's acidic wit stays winning. The fight against Heatwave is a nice little mid-issue moment, showing the Rogues in all their glory with a cool surprise save. It's just a fun little sequence to lull you into thinking the big stuff is out of the way. Read Full Review
I appreciate that Lemire is really focusing on what makes this Flash different than Prime-Flashes, I wish the Rogues would do more than project energy. I will give props to Lemire for jam packing Absolute Flash #10 with plot. Read Full Review
Absolute Flash #10 closes one door and blows another open. While that shocking reveal raises the stakes for the upcoming ‘Flash World' arc, the series is starting to tread water with its slow progression. Read Full Review
Absolute Flash #10 is another strong issue in the series that helps put the series back on track as one of the more interesting Absolute titles. After losing a little steam, readers can rest assured that this series is not going to be held down by its small detour as things feel very back on track. The only question that seems to hang over this series still is the question of whether we can consider Wally West a superhero, or if he's just a metahuman trying to get by. Hopefully this is better addressed soon to understand how this version of Wally sits with the rest of the Absolute Universe. Read Full Review
Absolute Flash #10 builds ambitious thematic architecture atop a foundation of internal contradiction. The emotional character work is genuine, and the cosmic horror elements arrive with real menace, but these positives rest on character logic that collapses under scrutiny. Read Full Review
This issue barrels along at full speed, continuing the momentum from last issue, and with lots of fascinating twists and turns along the way. Lemire and Robles are in peak form here, with characters and supporting cast that we’ve grown to care for, along with reappearances from some old friends (and a new foe). I’m enjoying this story as much as Snyder’s Absolute Batman. Credit to this team for delivering such amazing work!
I haven’t been loving this series. But this issue killed it. Great pacing and great art.
This so far has been my favorite Jeff Lemire series of the 2020s.
