DC Comics News - Tyler McGoff Mar 3, 2014

Animal Man #28 is an excellent conclusion to the battle between The Red and the Baker family. Buddy is the hero we all want to bean ordinary man trying to protect his family under extraordinary circumstances. Between the otherworldly action sequences and the heartfelt emotional moments of a family trying to heal together, Lemire and Albuquerque make a fantastic team of storytellers. Read Full Review

    IGN - Mike Logsdon Feb 19, 2014

The art team works together to illustrate the undiluted emotional and physical power on display in this issue. The exaggerative styling of Rafael Albuquerque and the almost hand-painted qualities of colorist Dave McCaig add a great deal to the penultimate chapter of Animal Man. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Jordan Richards Feb 26, 2014

Animal Man #28 is another fantastic issue of the series and is helping bring this series to what should be a fantastic conclusion if this issue is any judge. Almost everything worked — from the characters to the emotion to the artwork. I look forward to the finale of this series with great anticipation and if you are still reading, you should as well. Animal Man is ending soon, but Jeff Lemire is going out swinging.  Animal Man #28 is a treat for long time readers and the art and colors by Rafael Albuquerque and Dave McCaig makes it great to look at as well.  It's not new reader friendly, but if you haven't read Animal Man yet, just go back to the beginning and start reading.  Those up to speed will love this issue. This is a fantastic penultimate issue to a series that has been so good in such an unlikely manner. Jeff Lemire is winding down the book and bringing a lot of emotions with him. Read Full Review

Infinite Comix - Jacob Torres Feb 20, 2014

It's hard not to become emotionally invested in these characters as Lemire roots the stories deeply within the Baker family and how driven they are by their love and emotions. He writes them with such strong care and passion that it's obvious why he wanted to end the series on his own terms. After everything they've gone through, the Bakers deserve some happiness and at least for now, no matter what comes next, they are together. These were the final pages to a chapter of their lives, it wasn't the first and it surely won't be the last, but for now it's time to close the book. Read Full Review

Overall, Animal Man will be leaving on a high level next month regardless of where Buddy ends up. He proved he is the hero his family needed during this issue. Hopefully, Buddy can get the ending that every hero deserves. Read Full Review

Animal Man #28 offers a sweet almost-conclusion to one of the best books from the New 52 relaunch. With pages full of action, and solid storytelling, Issue #28 lives up to the high standard set by the previous 27 issues. Read Full Review

Regardless of your feelings towards the larger scope of Lemire’s Animal run, issue #28 is one of the finest moments of this series. It also gives me hope that Lemire and friends can really knock out the last couple issues of this series. Read Full Review

    All-Comic - Derek Baker Feb 19, 2014

Lemire has put an end to the action, now he only needs to put a bow on everything so we can have some type of closure. This issue was a great reminder of what made me fall in love with Animal Man in the first place. Its going to be depressing to see this series go. Read Full Review

Nerds Unchained - Jeremy Radick Feb 20, 2014

I was disappointed, however, by Albuquerques art, which is usually superb. The lack of backgrounds throughout the book really hurt the story. The final battle is happening in the Red, which would be a golden opportunity for some really bizarre and beautiful backgrounds and instead we get no backgrounds at all for a whole slew of pages. Its odd, and I dont know if it was a choice, but it makes the book feel rushed. Its a sizeable let down for what is otherwise a celebration of a strong run for the character. Read Full Review

Comic Book Resources - Greg McElhatton Feb 24, 2014

"Animal Man" #28 is another solid issue, and while I'm sad to see the series about to wrap up, it is good to know that Lemire will continue to write Animal Man's adventures beyond the conclusion of this comic. Hopefully, if nothing else, it'll draw some attention to the collected editions of "Animal Man," because it's been a fun ride. Read Full Review
