This is the start of a new arc, unlike the previous Luthor/Joker spotlight issue, and the stakes are much higher. But what makes this arc work is the dialogue between the two villains, which is some of the funniest material we've seen in this series. Waid perfectly captures Luthor's intelligent, resentful frustration and Joker's unhinged chaos, but that mismatched personality conflict doesn't make them any less dangerous together. Ending an issue with such a big twist might feel like a tease, but the fact that the entire issue is packed with Lex and Jokers chemistry, or lack of, makes the reveal that much better. Plus, there is more to come in the next issue.
