I have really been enjoying Dan Jurgens' Blue & Gold series. This title shows a lot of heart by focusing on one of the most notable friendships in the DCU. And I can hardly wait to see what Jurgens has planned for the duo when the newest Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) guest-stars next issue. Read Full Review
Jurgens creates an exciting chapter that neatly resolves the situation involving Omnizon, while opening up an interesting look into Rip's connection with the title characters. Read Full Review
This series has been a bit of a hodgepodge so far, combining wacky JLI-style comedy with some surprisingly dark beats, but it shows the skill of a writer who has been working on these characters for decades. Read Full Review
Great issue and a great end to the maxiseries' first arc. Read Full Review
Fun little romp with a well done fight. A little convoluted but still entertaining.
I was getting worried with the last 2 issues where this was going but it is coming back around and it definitely entertained. Hopefully this can stick the landing for the final act!
Honestly, this issue falls into the same trap that I feel that a lot of Jurgens' modern work falls into. It's a failure to reconcile modern comic book sensibilities with the tropes of the past. The 90s past, mostly. Modern comics are a lot more decompressed and breezy, and it feels like Jurgens is trying to write that way, but at the same time can't help but over-complicate the story much in the way 90s comics would over-complicate. It makes for a slog of an issue where not much actually happens. It's not terrible or anything, but I'm not in love with this.
Oh god.
