Another issue in V's run that's more buildup than anything else, Detective Comics #1086 still manages to bring together the story's larger ideas and flesh out its narrative themes. Aside from a brief detour devoted to the Joker and his plan to cause mayhem, the writing and artwork both maintain a consistent, haunting atmosphere that keeps you invested as to where this conclusion might lead. Finally a decent issue after over a year of meandering. Ram V is clearly a capable writer and seems best served for limited series where he's forced to stay focused rather than attempt to wax poetic for years at the fans expense.
