In one of their first adventures together, Earth 2's Supergirl and Robin team up to face their world's Wonder Woman!
While I don't believe it should be called a Prelude to First Contact, I did find myself enjoying the adventures of Robin, and Supergirl. This issue instead of a straight forward adventure story where the good guys beat the bad guys, we see a chaptered story dealing with these young heroes finding their place in the world, and seeking acceptance for who they are. This was definitely one of the best issues of Worlds' Finest, but that's not saying much for this struggling title, that doesn't know what it's supposed to be. But I love Earth 2, and this Earth 2 centric story really hit the spot. I hope we can see more stories featuring these characters in their alter alter egos. Read Full Review
So some nice moments. And some odd moments. Sounds like Worlds' Finest. I will say the overall feeling for this issue was better than most. I especially liked hearing the thoughts of this world's Batman and Superman. It will be interesting to contrast those thoughts to the Prime Earth counterparts' thoughts. There is some good stories here to mine. Read Full Review
We get three separate tales. The first gives us Robin's first outing as Batman‘s partner. The second involves Kara enjoying a little normalcy before being unable to save her date for the evening. And the third story combines the first two as Helena and Power Girl work together to take on an evil Amazon (with an unusual connection to Wonder Woman) who is to blame for Kara's recent misfortune. Despite the $5 price-tag, it's still worth a look. Read Full Review
High expectations led to low satisfaction in this case, as Worlds Finest Annual #1 took what should have been a special event along the lines of the Silver Age annual crossovers of worlds, and made it into a story that could have been told anytime, and with little fanfare. I, like many Earth 2 fans, want a deeper look into what made the Huntress and Power Girl who they were before their recent travails not to mention clues about the world of 5 years ago and unfortunately, I came away with little to none of that. Heres hoping the next flashback opportunity can dig a little deeper. Read Full Review
I get that sometimes you have to take a step back in order to move forward, but Worlds' Finest Annual Issue #1 is a bit too far. Too far and unnecessary. Although far from perfect, I've rather enjoyed the world and relationship between the Huntress and Power Girl created by writer Paul Levitz. This massive flashback acting as a prologue to the big Batman and Superman reveal does little to explore either character or world. Read Full Review
Overall, these two preludes to "First Contact" do too much to set-up the future that they neglect to ensure their own quality. Let's hope that Levitz has crafted a riveting story in "First Contact" that's worth the less-than stellar build up. Read Full Review
"Worlds' Finest Annual" #1 is anything but the world's finest. It struggles to achieve middling, but at least brings strong story potential. It appears as though DC has been attempting to weave "Worlds' Finest" back together with "Earth 2," and this annual makes a strong move in that direction, only to trip over itself. Nothing presented here gives me any indication that the contributions of "Worlds' Finest Annual" #1 should in any way, shape or form impact the destiny of "Earth 2." Let Power Girl and Huntress continue to fight the good fight on the main Earth, but let Earth 2 continue to expand its own backstory. Read Full Review
Big let down from the usual greatness of this book
