"Codename G.I. Joe" continues! Conrad Hauser, aka "Duke," is on the run from the very government he trusted, investigating secrets that may be More Than Meets The Eye. Now, he's about to meet the last person any G.I. JOE fan ever expected! Are they friend, foe, or in it for themselves?
Duke #2 retained all the aspects of the first issue and doubled down with established allies fighting each other and the tease of another familiar face who might be an ally. It's just a matter of which comes out last to choose between Duke and Cobra Commander as my favorite title right now. Read Full Review
A story shrouded in secrecy and betrayal from all sides with beautiful artwork to boot. Read Full Review
The life of G.I. Joes franchise leader gets turned to 11 with an electrifying new chapter. Williamson pens a superb balance of action and drama while Reilly, Bellaire and Wooten bring the fight for the truth to the pages! When the smoke clears, readers are left with an issue that they cant afford to leave the comic shops without. Read Full Review
So far Duke has been an excellent action/spy story. Everything Duke thought he new about the government has changed and caused him to be on the run. This leads Duke to a surprise visit to an old friend. Almost immediately the action begins! Read Full Review
Duke #2 further demonstrates the fertile potential of the Energon Universe and the longevity within it. I am highly impressed with Williamson and Reilly showcasing beloved characters in new light and circumstances, as nothing truly feels untouchable to the universe. The pair enormously respect the material but never let it prevent them from charting into new territories. Before this, I would not have considered myself a G.I. Joe fan, but now I understand why the brand has lasted so long.Duke #2continues the strong streak from the other titles of the Energon Universe, making each release feel essential. Considering where the latest issue lands, the team demonstrates the vast possibilities of where Duke and the series can go and might end up. There is still a way to go before the iconic G.I. Joe team forms, but the pair is making the journey incredibly worthwhile. Read Full Review
DUKE #2 is a positive step for Skybound and Image Comics. Despite minor grammar foibles and a feeling of being a setup issue, the overall experience is fast-paced, action-packed fun. Read Full Review
Duke #2 delivers a strong follow-up to the spy/action thriller set-up by the first issue. Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly build on the investment in Duke's character journey through his interactions with other G.I. Joe characters. These interactions build towards a memorable ending that makes you want to read the next issue right away. Read Full Review
With an issue featuring lots of bullets, surprise appearances, and action movie references, Duke delivers an action-packed romp that encapsulates everything fun about the series so far. Read Full Review
The final pages see our heroes-slash-fugitives being captured, which seems like the only logical conclusion given the expertise and resources being aimed at them. However, the final page throws an interesting new wrinkle into the proceedings with an unexpected addition to the story (unless of course you've checked out any of Skybound's preview and hype material for the series.) As I mentioned above, I'm well and truly invested in this new story, and the Energon Universe as a whole, and can't wait to see what comes next. Read Full Review
Duke #2 continues to show a deft hand at recrafting the G.I. Joe franchise as we know it. There's strong character work and plenty for longtime fans to dig into, as the story is clearly on a path to new beginnings. Read Full Review
While the government conspiracy intrigue might not be as flashy as readers might expect, it's still infinitely better than previous G.I. Joe I've read in the past. Read Full Review
As an individual issue, this one has exciting action, good character moments and stupendous art. But the bigger picture of the Energon Universe is pretty fuzzy at this point in the story. Read Full Review
This is a lot different from the Duke I grew up with who always commanded respect. But I'm really enjoying it nonetheless. It also gave a great introduction to just a few of the many Joes to yet be introduced in this universe. And just as before this issue ends with the promise of more excitement in #3. Looking forward to it.
A great mix between action, character introductions and plot advancement. Not much to say about this issue except that each page was compelling and I loved reading it. I really enjoy the formation of GI Joe group in this universe. Every book is a hit for this written universe. Ending the story with some eye-candy after being filled with Duke and crews ripped muscles is also nice. Its all good all the way.
I liked a lot about this issue. The beginning with Clutch, though Duke heals up pretty quickly once the bullets are removed. The entrance of Rock n Roll and Stalker, who is one of my favorites.
I'm looking forward to seeing how all of this comes together.

After loving the suspense and intrigue of the debut issue, this one took a step back from the high octane thrills and focused on Duke’s run from the government conspiracy. He meets up with Clutch to try and lay low but not before Stalker and Rock N’ Roll catch up to them and take them to the Pit.
Even with a cool chase/attempted escape scene, I found this issue to be a bit of a slog with its restrained pacing, but that’s mostly because the first issue got me so amped for more. Williamson is taking his time to lay the groundwork for Duke’s story without needing to rely on overused tropes. It’s an interesting approach to G.I. Joe comic but hopefully we get a few more thrills mixed into with future issues.
