We explore the first eight days after eight billion genies appeared on earth, offering one wish each to every man, woman, and child. The wish-proof Lampwick Tavern has provided a safe haven for our eight heroes so far, but now they must undertake a crucial mission into a world utterly remade by frivolous and bizarre wishes. With a special appearance from history's most famous drunkards!
‘Eight Billion Genies' dances that fine line between whimsical fantasy and the true horrors that stem from the human condition, showcasing how even the simplest of things can and likely will be corrupted instantly once given to humanity at large. Centering this story on a small group of people mostly unaffected by the wishes helps ground the story amidst all the chaos that can be found throughout the rest of the pages. Read Full Review
Eight Billion Genies #3 is another fantastic issue of a series that has infinite possibilities. Literally, anything can happen. But, even with that, the team keeps things focused and don't let their ideas get out of hand. So much is packed in but it's never overwhelming or distracts. Each issue has been amazing at its focus and constraint while also delivering the unexpected. Read Full Review
As you might expect, things get real weird, real fast. Almost so weird, a sense of doubt is instilled as to whether or not Soule and Browne can tell this massive of a story in just eight issues. Read Full Review
The final pages see an exciting shift in the status quo as youngster Robbie finally decides what to spend his wish on, and considering we're only eight days into the wish-pocalypse, I'm already absolutely hooked on this series and desperate to know what happens next. High concept carnage from a creative team that are clearly having an absolute blast. What more could you wish for? Read Full Review
The progression of events is exponentially crazy, and it makes me worry about how mad issue eight is going to be, but it's a well-written, complex and engaging story with a lot of moving parts that still works. That's an achievement. Read Full Review
This series is BRILLIANT! The story and the art are executed perfectly and the genies mimicking their human counterparts and/or messing around in the background are hilarious. I can not think of any story that has done a better job of mixing action, humor, and heart
I'm amazed, flabbergasted... how on Arakko do they manage to keep the quality level THIS high? Also, the build-up from 8 seconds to 8 hours, to 8 days really helps to build suspense like crazy, you just _can't_ stop thinking how things will unravel even further after 8 genie-infested _weeks_! (Only... #5 will probably be about the first 8 months, then 8 years, then 8 centuries, then... ...then what? 8 Big Bangs? :D )
In short: YES!! Recommended!! (Loudly even!) :D
GOD, how I wish these issues were longer. Charles Soule has put so much potential with this amazing premise. The dialogue and the writing are so strong I just want more, I want more characters, I want to see more of this world. While EIGHT BILLION GENIES leaves a TON to the imagination (often to weird, horrifying, hilarious results...) what we do get is still so strong and entertaining. Can't wait for next issue.
I really like this series so far. It really surprises me with how fresh it stays on an idea I though would have lost steam by now.
