This second issue picks up where the first left off. We get to see the aftermath of the first killer being taken out from the perspective of the elite. At the same time the suspense builds as the other killers close in on the town, and how the townspeople react as they become aware something strange is afoot. Michael Walsh picks up the story flawlessly and really delivers some great action and even better storytelling. Read Full Review
Exquisite Corpses #2 doubles down on its chilling premise with more strategy, more creeping tension, and more room for the twisted puzzle to take shape. The kills might be fewer this time around, but the psychological horror is ramped up. This issue makes one thing clear: this isn't just a gorefest. It's a bloody chessboard, and the pawns don't even know they're being played. Read Full Review
Exquisite Corpses #2 has been a true treat. It's able to differentiate itself from the headier and drearier Tynion books through its massive cast and hauntingly familiar vibe. Read Full Review
Ignazzi and Walsh craft some beautifully detailed and visually entertaining art throughout the issue. Read Full Review
The second issue of Exquisite Corpses ratchets up the tension with visceral horror, unsettling class commentary, and just enough plot development to leave you hungry for more. With Marianna Ignazzi's expressive art and Tynion and Walsh's layered storytelling, this series continues to prove it's more than just slasher thrills; it's a twisted game you can't stop watching. Exquisite Corpses #1 was so epic in concept and execution that it's normal that Exquisite Corpses #2 has a little bit of a sophomore slump. However, James Tynion IV, Michael Walsh, Mariana Ignazzi, and Jordie Bellaire have fun with a little sexy killer versus creepy killer as well as showing hopeless it is for the townsfolk of Oak Valley. I am absolutely enjoying this story so far.The first issue was a slow burn with lots of characters introduced. This issue carries on the same great story with decent artwork.
It's a solid, entertaining read. While I'm ok with where it's at now, I do feel we need more hooks.
This is a significant drop from the previous issue. We don't even see the main Soldier contestant. The Congressional killer is who we are focused on as well as the Gamer Kid going trick or treating. I'm not sure who the woman was that was in the dealership. I do like the "Side Bets" against the main matriarch. For the most part there is no significance to the story for this issue. Since we are only issue 2, that doesn't bode well.
