TWO ISSUES IN ONE MONTH!
The start of a new storyline, leading up to our monumental issue 100! After nearly 100 issues, Rick and the other survivors finally have "SOMETHING TO FEAR."
This is a story that seems ten times more dynamic and potentially huge than the last few arcs. There's a feel to it that isn't hype, but is a real thing that's found in the actual comic itself, albeit a underlying aspect to the story itself. It almost feels like what could be the beginning of an entirely new direction for the series. Read Full Review
This latest development for "The Walking Dead" is very smart stuff with the kind of payoff one has come to expect from this book. For even when this comic is quiet, you always know it's building to the next thing. Even when the next thing is all of your heroes sort of becoming villains, seemingly overnight, except that it was happening all along. Read Full Review
This material could have easily formed the entire backbone of the issue. Luckily, Kirkman shifts focus back to more familiar characters and settings afterward. There are some uncharacteristically pleasant developments (which will almost certainly be followed by unpleasant ones) and a few seeds sown for imminent conflicts. All in all, there's a lot brewing in the opening stages of Something to Fear. There are zombies, there's human drama, and there's the sense that something awful is brewing in the next few issues. Not a bad time to be a monthly reader, in other words. Read Full Review
Lots of plot development in this one. No big explosions of action, but any TWD reader knows not to expect that until issue #100. Read Full Review
I'm eagerly anticipating a bloody battle with Negan's group because as The Walking Dead has demonstrated in the past, no character is safe. Some exciting stuff is just around the corner! I give this issue an 8/10. Read Full Review
Everything is changing in the WALKING DEAD world. We no longer have Rick Grimes and a small group of survivors. Not only do we have one community of survivors but instead we have three. A big war is coming and with the 100th issue also looming, we can expect some major bloodshed and the loss of major characters. Of course this is all an assumption but it's difficult to think otherwise. Now that this bigger world has been revealed, there is the question of what will happen after this story. While it's wouldn't be impossible, it would be hard to go back to the simpler times of the survivors just surviving against the zombies. THE WALKING DEAD remains a consistently great read. Robert Kirkman hasn't let us down yet and now has high expectations to live up to. We shouldn't worry as he's proven he can live up to them month after month. Read Full Review
Walking Dead is the best of the best each month. Things are going to blow up and soon, it's just a question of the level of damage that gets done. Characters will die and there will be shocking developments. Do yourself a favor and get this book because this is the ground floor of all that is about to come. Don't wait for issue 100. From Rick's ever growing peace of mind to Maggie being excited to see Glenn and share some wonderful news, Adlard truly captures the heart of these feelings. It is safe to say that the chain of event that will lead for the milestone 100th issue is where business will pick up and heads and guts will roll. Read Full Review
Walking Dead #97 should have been titled "Now that's what I'm talkin' about!" The last few issue of the series have wavered in quality, but issue #97 reminded me why I've been following Walking Dead since the beginning. Read Full Review
If you only have slight background information on The Walking Dead, even if its from the TV show, you should have very little problem figuring out what has happened/is happening. There is a nice balance of exposition and action that keeps the issue moving while filling in knowledge gaps and setting up the rest of the arc. If you haven't been reading this book, Walking Dead #97 is a place you can jump in and hit the ground running. 3 out of 5 stars. Read Full Review
I don't know how it wass supposed to feel waiting for #100. But I couldn't stop reading the day I came near to reach #100. The last 10 issues before #100 were absolutely delicious.
Excellent issue. The tension is growing. It's growing a lot. Kirk switches the focus from one side (Alexandria) to another (the field) with great ability, moving our emotions from the quiet talks after Mass to the enraging battle against Negan's thugs. I also appreciated the characterization of the talking one, who's personality seems somewhat creepily calm and weird, enhancing my eagerness to see this goddamn man.
