Alien vs. Captain America #1 sets the tone for this terrifying tale. Frank, Clayton, Neeraj, and Stefano lean into the mythos of the Xenomorphs and use the art to allow the story to unfold while showcasing the misguided egos of Strucker and his team. In order to properly fuse the two properties together, Tieri and company work with a premise that deals somewhere between the second and fourth movies in the series. This makes perfect sense as Captain America is essentially an action hero and James Cameron's action based treatment of the premise is a good match. The legacy science fiction of the fourth film is mirrored in a clever execution of the light cycle of the xenomorph as it engages with the World War II era of the Titanic book. It's very potentially calculated. And now that the basic introduction is set, it should be interesting to see how the creative team manages to navigate through the rest of the series without making it feel painfully obvious. The joy of introducing the premise is a lot of fun. It will remain to be seen if it can maintain that appeal as the story works its way out to its inevitable resolution. Read Full Review
Alien vs Captain America Issue 1 reinvigorates the Marvel Heroes vs monsters idea. It's an inventive concept that means Cap doesn't have a slew of reinforcements, and the war story fused with sci-fi horror is a fantastic combo. Read Full Review
Plot
This comic is set during World War II, where Red Skull sends his right-hand man, Baron Von Strucker, on a mission to find the mysterious civilization of Attilan, home of the Inhumans, who have been mysteriously missing for centuries, but whose power could be used as a weapon against the Allies.
Strucker obtains a series of hieroglyphs that tell how the Inhuman royal family was wiped out by a plague. They find the Inhuman sarcophagi, whose skeletons show their destroyed chests. It is then that one of the soldiers discovers many Xenomorph eggs, and they are attacked by a horde of facehuggers.
Strucker and a few others escape. A few weeks later, in Nazi-occupied France, H.Y.D.A., on Red Skull's orders, launches more
Marvel's Alien and Predator books have been a favorite read for me.The price of this comic was a bit high for the number of pages.Otherwise,this was a good start and I hope It continues to entertain.
