Aliens: Aftermath has all the fixings one could desire in an Alien story: the unfeeling corporate overlords, the dread and unease of what could be in the shadows, and plenty of Alien mayhem too. This is all elevated with some interesting character work and an angle on the story we haven't seen in an Alien story before. It's creepy, it's thrilling, and it's definitely not game over for the franchise at Marvel Comics. Read Full Review
Dave Wachter delivers some impressive art throughout this issue. There are so many great, tension filled moments in the visuals and the art does a great job of building and sustaining suspense. Read Full Review
What better way to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Aliens than by giving readers another reason to hate Weyland-Yutani? If you’re a fan of the films or just in need of a quick Xenomorph fix, definitely pick up this issue. Read Full Review
Is this the perfect Alien story weve been waiting for, the one to finally recapture the heart-pounding greatness of the original films? Not quite. But I dont think needs to be. Its a great tribute to a great film on its 35th anniversary. And for this Aliens fan, thats plenty. Read Full Review
Aliens: Aftermath is a good addition to the mythos setting up what's to come. As a one-shot, the comic feels a bit rushed and packed in and might have benefitted from a second issue to expand upon the characters, their mission, and tension. The issue has some aspects that just aren't explained enough but are intriguing enough that I want to see what happens next. This is one to read if you're invested in Marvel's line of comics but doesn't quite stand on its own. Read Full Review
While still semi-entertaining, this Aliens sequel comic throws new ideas at the Alien wall of mythos and very little sticks; least of all its cast of disposable characters. Read Full Review
Despite its lack of originality, Aliens: Aftermath at least delivers a story that understands its point of origin and that alone is an improvement at Marvel Comics. Read Full Review
This was an odd issue. The new Xenomorph looks cool and is actually pretty cool. The writing for this is good, however my main grip with this series, much like the ALIEN series, is that they can't say fuck. They sensor it but can say shit all they want. To me, if you have a rating of parental advisory on the cover, then you should be allowed to say whatever curse word you want. Other then that issue, the panels were awesome. Switching from still to staggering when the situation gets intense. Hopefully it won't be too confusing moving forward.
It's probably been over a decade since I've seen Aliens, but I don't think my opinion of this comic would be better if I had seen it more recently. At least the art isn't abysmal like the main series.
I don't really know how to interpret this other than how things like influencers continue to be a problem. Selling out to an enemy, and preferring to capture data of being the hero taking risks rather than deal with some minor elements.
I can't say I care for the characters but I do like how this builds on the aftermath of the second film.
