THE FINAL SHOWDOWN ON DOOM’S DOORSTEP! The so-called AVENGERS make their stand. The scheme of DR. DOOM is revealed. The final betrayal. The fate of the Wastelands is determined here!
This issue is incredibly poignant given the actions of the egomaniacal Dr. Doom and the desire for our heroes to be better to enact change in the face of tyranny. Read this to feel inspired that your voice can be heard with a strong message that we can be better -- we just need to fight. Read Full Review
All in all, Avengers Of The Wastelands Issue #5 creates a confrontation worthy of Earths Mightiest Heroes. In its ending, it strives to remind the reader that strength and valor are crucial for a hero but, just as equally important, so is empathy and compassion. Read Full Review
The comics industry, like the rest of the world, is in a period of tremendous turmoil. But this time also brings opportunities, and one that I think publishers and readers should consider is admitting that not all comics need to be sold the same way, at the same price point. Avengers of the Wastelands #5 is not a bad comic. But it is also not a premium comic that justifies its $4 price. Our industry is changing. Can't one change be carving out new niches that better fit this sort of smaller-stakes storytelling? Read Full Review
With a surprisingly saccharine ending to wrap things up, Avengers of the Wastelands never really lives up to its iconic predecessors. Read Full Review
It's a disappointment, to say the very least. Read Full Review
Avengers of the Wastelands ended in a thud, but did it ever really begin? Ed Brisson filled this finale with forced exposition, cliched twists, and not much else. I am a bit embarrassed that I defended and even recommended this book when it started because, in the end, it was just a waste! Read Full Review
This fizzled out. Things just became too clichéd by the end. I hope this is it for the Old Man universe for a while. I think the original story was a tad overrated, and that the universe was best exploited by Marvel during the initial Old Man Logan run by Lemire. Since then, it's degraded. We didn't need this series and the majority weren't reading it, proven now by its digital only release. Please, I do not want another miniseries about rebuilding civilization after Doom.
I’m not mad about having read it, but I question how much we actually needed this one.
I suppose it's possible to take a cliche premise like "villain with a chronic illness wants to die in glorious battle rather than bed" and turn it into a good story. This series did not do it.
Very anticlimactic and boring. Doom's character was wasted.
