Steve Rogers: Captain America #9 is daring and complex storytelling with a number of plots ebbing and flowing all at one, and its a blast. Spencer continues to have balls of vibranium with this title and its fun to experience. Read Full Review
With so much unfolding simultaneously, the book's overall momentum does seem to be dragging a bit. Still, there's plenty of compelling material to chew on here. Read Full Review
I'm a sucker for character work and find comics like this entertaining. I did feel underwhelmed with the way the story progresses (including holding out on us for a major decision), but there's groundwork made here future Marvel fans shouldn't miss. Read Full Review
Spencer is telling a really fascinating story, and I'm excited to see where it's all going, but the individual issues are focused too much on the big picture instead of delivery the meaningful character work that would really make this story shine. Read Full Review
CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #9 is another very good (bordering on excellent) issue. I think the fans who are avoiding this series on principle (much like when NIGHTWING became GRAYSON over at DC) are missing out on a terrific, engaging story (much like GRAYSON over at DC...which, incidentally, stands as my favorite Dick Grayson solo book in 30 years). My only complaint this issue would be the cliffhanger ending to the trial of Maria Hill...Otherwise, it was a great issue that had me looking forward to what comes next.
SCORE: 7.7
This issue was interesting, but ultimately fails to deliver, unless the purpose is to get me to grow more annoyed by Maria Hill. Her closing argument/presentation/blackmail attempt (?) stretched credulity to the point of seeming a parody (as anything referencing the building of a wall must now seem). At least this leads to the verdict which is...oh, yeah. Okay. No verdict. Right. This is a step back.
I like Maria Hill.
