Captain Marvel #36 is the perfect ending to a story arc with its action-packed sequences balanced by the emotional catharsis of Carol finally vanquishing a foe thats come after her time after time. Read Full Review
Davila delivers some fantastic imagery on every page of this issue. The art is beautifully detailed and as big and bold as the story itself. Read Full Review
A killer idea to involve the rest of the Marvel family in Carols book to help solidify her connection to the mantle, and those whove borne the name over the years. Unfortunately for us, and Kelly, the cast seemed to be too crowded to really get any real development or character progression to help form the ties that could bind these characters together. Which is a disservice to Kelly, and her run on this book, as character development has become one of the biggest strengths this volume has going for it. Read Full Review
"The Last of the Marvels" comes to a scintillating close in Captain Marvel #36, and everything comes together for a bombastic and satisfying finale. Read Full Review
Captain Marvel #36 was a satisfying conclusion to "The Last of the Marvels" storyline. The only thing that kept this story from reaching a higher level was how uninteresting Vox Supreme was the entire time. Other than that, every development around Captain Marvel and her team-up with the Marvels, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy was so much fun to see. The end this story provided a great showcase for how much Carol Danvers has grown over the course of Kelly Thompson's run on Captain Marvel. And that is really what you want to see as a fan and will keep you coming back to see what Thompson has planned next. Read Full Review
I think writer Kelly Thompsons run thus far has been full of a lot of fun ideas, and the fact that its lasted as long as it has (especially compared to previous recent Captain Marvel volumes) with no obvious end in sight is a testament to her ability to deliver consistently entertaining superhero comics. Shes also had the benefit of working with some of Marvels best up-and-coming talent, with penciler Sergio Dvila marking his sendoff from this title with slick visuals worthy of an actual event series. This is a satisfying conclusion to this arc. The art is really, really great, so Sergio Davila is a name to pay attention to. It felt like a big event comic, all self contained into this one issue. It was very well done.
The series' last dangling plot thread reappears just in time to tie up this arc. It's clever, but to me it's the wrong sort of clever -- like a cheap trick instead of something genuinely inventive.
It doesn't help that I found the big cast of allies underwhelming. Few of the heroes have anything substantive to do, and some of their voices don't even sound right.
At least they all look dang good in the fight scenes! Wonderfully detailed art, though the posing and blocking does feel a little dated.
Balancing out my nitpicks, I do like what's done with Carol's energy doppelganger and I look forward to further developments there. And a little breather episode with some Multi-Marvel action sounds like just what t more
So I rate things based on how I felt after reading it. It's purely subjective and there is no other system aside from "this feels like an 8". I will explain, because it was almost a 7 but I do feel a bit slighted for ridiculous reasons that shouldn't matter but do to me. It was overall a good ending and I think the new Binary has some good potential for story telling in the future.
Here's where I feel like being petty though and why I can't rate it higher. You may think this stupid and you are welcome to... They put Nova on the cover but not in the issue. Maybe it him on the bottom corner of the second to last page drawn very sketchy... Doesn't count! Nova is my favourite character and I will buy anything he shows up in. I wasn' more
