Champions #10 is a wonderful comic. Not just the end of one arc, the relief from this issue stems to before the start of Outlawed. Lore has told a story absolutely brimming with heart, emotion, and thematic relevance. Some of the statements and moments within this comic are so powerful they are like a gut punch. These characters have felt alive and full of souls, and the reader finishes every issue caring deeply for each of them. Whatever comes next for the Champions is eagerly awaited. Read Full Review
The Champions concluding chapter more than sticks the landing, it presents a tremendously solid wrap-up to the overarching plotlines of the book while never wavering from the character-focused heart that made the series soar. This creative team proved that teen-focused books can and do work still, creating one of the best books around, and Marvel should get them on something else together sooner rather than later. It seems weird that I'm reviewing my second Champions #10 season finale in as many years, but cancellation hasn't stopped this team before, and this final chapter provides closure for the ridiculous 'OUTLAWED!' arc. Read Full Review
Champions hasn't been the best title in Marvel's roster, but this latest issue definitely is one of the better examples of the ten issue series to date. Read Full Review
The Champions fight a few rounds with Roxxon's Chaperone-bots until Miriam Blakemore shuts them down. It's a frustrating finale. But while Ms. Marvel is frustrated because Roxxon comes out smelling like roses, readers are more likely to be frustrated because the Champs don't really have anything to do with the resolution. I liked this arc (and I particularly like Miriam as a low-key pragmatic villain), but I think the Champions deserved a cleaner win. (I also could have done without the stinger scene slapping a pointless question mark on "the end".)
Eh, not sad to see this end. The Champions was a cool concept, that unfortunately hasn't been done effectively yet. Mark Waid just didn't seem like he knew what to do with it. Jim Zub tried his best to make them something bigger, and I liked that, and it didn't sell. Now we have the Outlawed era, which blew up thanks to COVID. So... I hope Marvel gets a top tier creative team on this title when they inevitably resurrect it. You need a big name writing it or it won't sell, and a big name will take risks with the title too.
