Daredevil: Unleash Hell - Red Band Issue 1 turns violence into an art form. Adding the Red Band label is utilized for more than gratuitous gore. It becomes part of the plot, where the villain sickeningly celebrates blood. Read Full Review
Elektra works particularly well as Daredevil. Schultz does a very sharp job of putting it all together in a way that gives the artists plenty of room to explore the impact of the story without bogging it down in too much unnecessary dialogue. Itsall quite well-executed from beginning to end. Nice to see Schultz returning to Elektra now in addition to the new series that shes writing with Laura Kinney. Schultz has a particularly good grasp of what makes the more aggressive and physically dramatic heroes so appealing. Itll be fun to see the two crossover in Kinneys next issue of Wolverine. I can't wait to see where this goes as Muse is one of my favorite villains. With Schultz behind the writing and the stellar artists on the creative team, it's sure to be a hit. Read Full Review
Daredevil: Unleash Hell #1 delivers a blood-soaked, gripping read that makes the most of Marvel's Red Band Format. It also is a great argument for keeping Elektra as Daredevil as the next ten years - or letting Schultz write her future adventures. Or both. Read Full Review
Daredevil: Unleash Hell #1 is a great jumping-on point for new readers, though it might feel slow for those familiar with the characters. Read Full Review
The book had some cool pages. The story was pretty generic and I have absolutely no idea why this needed to be red band.
I don't understand a writer's obsession with taking a street-level character like Elektra or Daredevil and bringing supernatural elements to them. It never works and it never feels right. Schultz is not an outstanding writer by any means. She knows how to do an action scene, but that's where her talents end. She doesn't know how to craft an ongoing story. In the Daredevil/Punisher story that was only several issues, she lost track of several plot points. I don't know why Elektra is still calling herself Daredevil. Can't she be called something else and have her own identity? This is a one-and-done for me. I'm dropping it.
