This new Captain Marvel feels like a breezy extension of the Genis-Vell book that came before and while it doesn't explore new territory when it comes to the characterization and plotting of the previous series, it feels like readers who loved this iteration of the character can return for a new adventure while also allowing for new readers to buckle up for the ride. Genis-Vell: Captain Marvel #3 has plenty of interesting developments and outstanding art, but after three issues, the plot is unclear and directionless. There's still time to build momentum in a particular direction, but this issue feels like the story hasn't figured itself out yet. Read Full Review
This series continues to be one I look forward to. Peter David pays good attention to past continuity and characterization. Something I always appreciate in comics.
The only criticism I have if a somewhat jarring transition in the last few pages where I had to check if I missed a page by accident. Moon dragon comes out of no where. I expect her to show up, it wasn’t her presence that felt off, it was just the abrupt transition. A page or a couple of panels of story telling should’ve been added to get there. Minor problem really, but when it feels like a page in the story was missed, but wasn’t, I can’t justify a 10.
Really good issue though. I’m quite happy with it.
Time/place/memory hopping around at its finest and sometimes it feels like we are all over the place. Still I like this series because it has a charm from Peter David's writing and Ramirez delivers great complementary art.
Taking a month-long break on either side of #3 does it no favors. This is another series that'll read better in trade.
