The Seven Capital Cities of Heaven, Part 1
Once a generation, the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven align on a plane far beyond the ken of mortal men. It is here that these cities send their Immortal Warriors to compete against one another in a combat tournament to end all tournaments?and it is here that Daniel Rand was spirited to in his darkest hour. Generations of mystical war traditions await their chance to prove they have the greatest kung fu... to THE IMMORTAL IRON FIST!
I have said it over and over and I'll keep on saying it. Iron Fist is one of the best titles that Marvel is currently publishing. It is sad that the June, 2007 sales numbers had Immortal Iron Fist #6 only at the 58th place with 36,708 copies sold. That puts Iron Fist with lower sales numbers than so many grossly inferior titles. Immortal Iron Fist is a phenomenal read and is absolutely worth the cover price. I definitely recommend giving the Immortal Iron Fist a try. Read Full Review
They have jettisoned one aspect of the old days that I miss, though. Jeryn Hogarth has been kidnapped, and his mother is being tortured; Dannys chosen CEO seems completely without resources of his own, and that wasnt the case back in the day. Maybe it was a cheesy James Bondian bit of fluff, but Jeryn always traveled with his own bodyguard cadre of deadly supermodels. If the writers can reinvigorate everything else about Dannys pulpy, contradictory roots, surely they can update the femizon police force. It would have been fun seeing them kick Hydras ass, too. Prelude:
It's time for the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. Brubaker and Fraction did some great set-up in #6 for this, so let's see how it goes.
The Good:
Wendell's story is interesting.
Good to see that nothing has stopped from the last arc just because a new one started.
The Immortal Weapons and the whole tournament is really interesting.
David Aja's art was great.
The Bad:
Nothing.
Conclusion:
A great issue of Immortal Iron Fist to start off a new arc. It's straight forward enough but juggles it's many stories well.
Brubaker and Fraction’s followup to the Last Iron Fist story begins with Danny being taken to Kun Lun by Lei-Kung and Yu-Ti to compete in the ultimate Kung-Fu tournament. It’s just as awesome as it sounds
