Furthermore, so does M.O.D.O.K., who we havent seen since the beginning of the first series. There is so much more David could have done with A.I.M. and simply so much more to explore. Lets think about this: DOOM and the Pantheon craft this plan only to watch the MAESTRO easily escape. It just felt like pieces of the plot were missing. Moreover, I thought DOCTOR DOOM would have a much larger role in all of this than he has. Sure, there is a showdown on the horizon. But, with only one issue left, how deep can they really go with that fight? Heck, it seems like HERCULES put up more of a fight than the Pantheon. I just question the velocity of the crescendo within the narrative. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

Maestro: War and Pax #4 is a brilliant but emotionally taxing issue. Davids dialogue is still superb, as his exploration of the character he has written for over two decades. It is a well-rounded plot and the way that it is paced implies that the last issue will be an epic. But the way some of the characters depart the series was hard to read. That is the purpose of stories in this genre of superhero books and was predicted, but the mostly quiet way their arc ends is perhaps more upsetting than if it had been more violent. The fact that this comic drew such a reaction shows just how brilliant the series has been. Read Full Review

This was a very quick issue, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I love how Peter David writes Dr. Doom. That's all; not much else to say.

The Maestro resurgent wipes out 2/3rds of the forces opposing him; all that remains for the finale is Maestro v. Doom. That's cool in theory, but the speedy way this issue resolves its conflicts suggests the big climax may play out less than completely satisfying. The art's pretty good, but the script is fast in a negative way. The key introspection scene, where Maestro bolsters Banner's resolve, reads like a facile swipe from the Immortal Hulk, which I found disappointing.
