"Overlooked and underrated" seems to describe most of Al Ewing's books. His U.S.AVENGERS and, especially, the amazing ULTIMATES2 don't get the attention they deserve, either.
• The Inhuman Royal Family heads out of the Solar System - and into the oncoming Chitauri Invasion of Earth!
• As the most merciless creatures in known space try to tear the ship - and the crew - apart...
• ...Black Bolt reveals a shocking secret that could end their mission before it even starts.

Royals #2 isn't as great as #1, but it's still good. Some pacing issues hinder an otherwise fun time. Read Full Review
This series is proof that it's always possible to revive an ailing franchise with a change in direction and creative team. I already find myself more invested in the Inhumans than I have been in years. Read Full Review
Has Medusa mentioned that she's dying in Royals #2? The number of times that some variation of that exposition is dropped throughout the course of the issue takes what should be one of the most important plot developments for the Inhumans of the past decade and robs it of emotional resonance. Love Jonboy, good pacing.
ROYALS #2 was another excellent installment in a series that should have been done years ago. As much as I've enjoyed Charles Soule's run with the Inhumans (the initial, post-Terrigen Bomb, INHUMAN is a particular favorite of mine) their best stories usually involve the Royal Family. ROYALS fully supports that statement. Hopefully, when this book becomes monthly, Jonboy Meyers will be able to keep up. I didn't mind the fill-in art, per se, but it's never a good thing to see the art chores divided after one issue. Still, I'm loving this book.
SCORE: 8.2
This book seems to be severely overlooked and underrated. Its a well rounded Marvel book with a great cast, cool space action scenes and intrigue. Al Ewing does a great job of tying this into Secret Empire without really affecting anything in his story. The weakest part is the art inconsistency with there being two artist on board. Looks to be a great Marvel series in the making.
But Medusa is DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you not hear her the first ten times. SHE'S DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lolol. I love Meyers art it's refreshing from the standard super hero art. But the story could have progressed more quickly with out Medusa saying she's DYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that little twist in the end was awesome.
The Royals face Medusa's illness, fight Chitauri, and discover they've brought the wrong Boltagon brother, whoops. Al Ewing's writing ping-pongs between brilliant and embarrassing for me. For all the great parts like Gorgon swearing fealty to Medusa whether she likes it or not, there are also cringey parts like Marvel Boy saying that Medusa is "dying of metaphor" and not getting mocked or punched or anything for making such an epically fatuous statement. It certainly lacks the sustained excellence I would need to overlook the fact that Jonboy Meyers can't keep up with a double-shipping schedule and his pinch hitter, Thony Silas, does a C-plus job on his fill-in art.
