Bast praise the return of Kris Anka! There's just something about the way he draws life into our team of misfits and reluctant heroes. That shadowy closing panel alone says so dam much! Matt Wilson has been the epitome of Anka's match made in heaven, because the vibrance of his coloring bodes so well for the art. I love myself a good origin story, and when done properly I like the expansion of said origin even more. Rainbow Rowell did that for the Runaways leader. She keeps finding new, inventive ways to keep this comic fresh and exciting. I don't know where they're going with this updated Staff Of One backstory, but I can't wait to find out. The possibilities are endless! Issue #16 drops next week, so check back in to see where we're heading. From the looks of the cover, it should be a Christmas spectacle! Read Full Review
The end result that Rowell crafts goes to some really heartfelt and intriguing places, all of which is elevated by the return of Anka's wonderful art. Read Full Review
An issue full of exposition about a nifty new retcon. The issue is entertaining enough, but still little more than an info-dump. Read Full Review
The Gibborim plot takes baby steps forward; in this issue, we follow Nico off on her own to have a revelatory conversation with the Staff of One. This issue's sole problem is that the digression reinforces the feeling that the main plot lacks momentum. The splendid character work (in words and art) and the provocative answers to big, long-standing questions are more than enough to make up for that. This is mustn't miss reading.
I thought this was cool but Nico, girl, what is you doing?
Nico issue. The best character by far. We learn something new about the staff and witness an interesting development for Nico as a character.
There's not much to say about this series anymore. It's really good. Read it.
