Jan 13, 2024My favorite issues of Rainbow Rowell's She-Hulk are the ones where the characters get to just hang out and be people, and that was the entirety of this issue, so I was quite pleased. Read Full Review

This book has nothing going on in it, and I like it more than almost any other book I'm reading right now. I don't know what that says about me or about comics, but Rowell's run continues to be very enjoyable. Alarmingly, Captain Marvel is only in this issue briefly but she has more personality in two pages here than she's had in like 4 issues of her ongoing book. Maybe Rowell should do a book about Captain Marvel doing nothing next. I'd buy it.

A lot of Rowell's run with Jennifer, whether it was the previous series or this current one, has been very slice-of-life. This issue is no exception, and I continue to really enjoy it. There doesn't have to be a bunch of action, universal stakes, or anything else in that nature for a book to be good, and this series proves that. I will say that I do think Guara's art was a little rougher in certain places than others, but this was another good read overall.

I like Ig Guara, but they're just not Andrés Genolet. I like clever banter, but it's not (at least not in this case) real character or plot development. This is a terrific, Seinfeldian break in the action, but it is still a break. When I say the banter isn't doing real character development, I may be overstating things. But, for example, this issue raises a HUGE question--why does it take a suggestion from a friend to convince Jen to de-Hulk if being a Hulk sucks so much right now?--and then doesn't really address it. Of course, that doesn't mean this volume can't get to it in the future!
