I'm not sure if Greg picked Stephen for the art on this book, but together they work very well together. It may be a little confusing if you aren't up to date with all the different X-men series, but they're really not required to read this book. Read Full Review

Alternate dimensional X-Men need to stop inter-dimensional threats. Dazzlers on the team. Its a little early to say, but this book needs to do something great, otherwise its going to be quite forgettable. If you like any of the X-Men, Id say give it a shot. Read Full Review

X-Men fans can either rejoice or cringe because there is a new X-Men title on the shelves. Greg Pak is taking some of the characters he introduced in his recent ASTONISHING X-MEN arc and with Dazzler thrown in, the party's about to get started. This book is separate from the other X-titles as it seems to have more of an EXILES feel with the team having to go out to different worlds to complete their agenda. This is a good and bad thing since I'm not sure if that's something I want right now. Greg Pak sets up the series and I will return next issue to make a better judgement on my opinion overall. I love the inclusion of Dazzler but we'll see if that and the 'anything goes' direction will be enough to win me over. Read Full Review

Foiled expectations aside, this story definitely has potential and could really turn into something really cool in the long run. While there are things that definitely bugged me, I think the early growing pains are over and were there merely as a causal reason for the multiverse to be opened and for this story to justifiably occur. At best, X-Treme X-Men shows some potential. It's fun, yes, but also fairly hollow and not particularly attractive. And with Age of Apocalypse already targeting fans of alternate reality X-Men stories, this series needs to do far more to establish a clear purpose and identity. Read Full Review

I don't think that there is any such thing as a bad character, and Dazzler is already proving herself to be some kind of asset to this group, but she is definitely the main character of this story. Pak and Segovia embrace the inherent ridiculousness of her pop-star character with goofy outfits and cheesy dialogue that just didn't work for me. If you're not a Dazzler fan, this issue won't do anything to change your mind. And the wonderful high science concepts were too few and far between. Read Full Review

I wouldn't normally be terribly disappointed in an unsatisfying X-Men series (after all, there's always another one right around the corner), but Pak is one of Marvel's best writers (and one of the few that really seemed to get what Morrison's New X-Men was all about in his Phoenix: Endsong series a few years back), so I don't think it's unreasonable to have had relatively high hopes for this one going in. By specifying that X-treme X-men takes place prior to the current Avengers – X-men crossover, Marvel more or less invites readers to simply sit back and enjoy the ride, but Pak needs to get a firmer grip on his story before that's going to happen. The rule that every comic should have is, "every comic is someone's first" " and if it's a #1 issue, then it really needs to be followed. X-Treme X-Men establishes its goals, but it doesn't really establish its theme, and it does require some homework to really appreciate it, to boot. There's something to these all-new, all-dimensional X-Men, but this approach may be a little too X-Treme for new readers. Read Full Review

There's an interesting idea buried in here somewhere -- "travel between dimensions to kill ten evil Xaviers that have been created!" -- but it's almost utterly lost in all the other noise of the book. "X-Treme X-Men" #1 is a complete misfire for a new series, which is a shame because in the past Marvel has proved they know how to do compelling things with alternate universe stories.
