The Conquering Crown: The King of Aquilonia has gone mad, or so the rumors say. A tyrant sits upon the throne and all will suffer until he is deposed or dead.

Conan the Mercenary cares nothing for these royal rumors and petty politics, but the Cimmerian’s skill in battle is about to put him in the path of a mad monarch, and his life will be forever changed.

This is a really enjoyable read. I particularly liked the way Jim Zub and his art team introduced the various nobles vying for Conan's attention in the court. Each interaction feels purposeful, quickly establishing the political tension and the sense that Conan is being pulled in multiple directions by competing interests. Read Full Review

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #27 proves that the character's greatest battles aren't always fought with swords. This issue swaps dungeons and dragons for throne rooms and backstabbery, and it mostly nails the tone and stakes of a barbarian suffocating under civilization's weight. The writing is sharp and the art is purposeful, making every conversation feel loaded with danger. Yet the pacing occasionally falters when ambition outpaces execution, particularly during the parade of nobles and the slightly rushed escape sequence. What truly earns this issue its value is the promise it plants about what comes next. Read Full Review

This is obviously a set up issue. There is waaay to much information here about the Barons or whatever those character's titles were. I kept asking myself while I was reading it, why I cared about any of this. I also felt that king turning on a dime was a little weird. I found it hard to believe that he would just spring something like that on Conan without gauging the temperature at all. So, for me, not a great issue.
