Word Of The Nerd - Tyler Counsellor Jul 13, 2016

While this issue does a wonderful job of wrapping up loose ends, it doesn't wrap them all up. Roku teases Ninjak (and us) with the identity of the seventh member of the Shadow Seven, a role which, until now, was assumed to be the undead monk, last seen in Ninjak #9, the conclusion of "The Shadow Wars". Evidently, this is not so, and this person is someone Ninjak has never encountered before. As well, Roku's cutting down of Darque's tree, last seen in Book of Death leaves a very important thread that is easy to overlook. The very last panel of the main book shows Darque fallen over and his red magic escaping to go presumably back to the Deadside. Roku is knelt down, clutching the back of her head, sword forgotten, with a few flames of red peeking out around her hair. This seems to indicate that, not only is Master Darque's power freed, but can now directly influence Roku. Time will tell what becomes of this. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Kenneth Bowden May 11, 2020

Ninjak #17 is the kind of climax you wish all spy/action stories who measure up to. It neatly and expertly wraps up a huge chapter in both Roku and Ninjak's lives while also planting small seeds that show promise of epic things to come. Read Full Review

The Broken Infinite - Frank Rodriguez Jul 12, 2016

The art, while a little rushed in a few spots, was absolutely superb. Every line displaying the vicious world and the brutal, heart-wretching finale that this was crafted to be. Bernard's art never looked better and this is some of the best character development that I have seen in a while. Kindt masterful takes the castle he built and teared it down, reasonably and methodically. The revelations that Kindt gave breadcrumbs, but many readers didn't pick up on throughout the series only lead to shocking surprise and one of the best personal confrontations you will see in comics. Kudos to Kindt for making the finale of “The Siege of King's Castle” such a masterful piece of writing. Readers will be looking back at issues while the art will burn itself in your memory with one of the most fulfilling conclusions in recent memory. Read Full Review

Geeked Out Nation - Jideobi Odunze Jul 13, 2016

Ninjak #17 concludes ‘THE SIEGE OF KING'S CASTLE' and it was a story worth telling. It had all the action you could ask for, it was character driven, and answered so many questions you could have had throughout the series so far that was left to assumption. Who knows what the future holds for both characters, but this was a defining chapter in both of their lives which opens the doors to much more possibilities. Read Full Review

Hulking Reviewer - Kareem Ali Jul 13, 2016

Ninjak #17 successfully brings together all the story threads that have been built up throughout this series with the culmination of Roku's true identity and the connection to Ninjak. It takes the story arc's title, Siege of King's Castle, and makes it more meaningful than just Ninjak's possession's or status and touches the core of the character. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Matthew J. Theriault Jul 12, 2016

After dropping out of grad school, I initially pursued a commission as a Naval officer specializing in Human Intelligence, with hopes of eventually becoming a field officer for The Company. Though my aptitude tests guaranteed me a place in the program, more economically enticing offers in the oil industry forced me to relegate a potential career in espionage to once again being just a boyhood dream. Looking back, it's hard not to imagine how my life very well might have turned out. When doing so, it's works such as the Bond films, Archer, and especially Ninjak, to which I turn, if not living out their lifestyle as I might have then at the very least living it vicariously through them, pulling off honey-pots and secretly saving the world, one femme fatale at a time. I liked the way the Siege on King's Castle story wrapped up, still there a couple threads to take us into the next arc, like is Colin King still rich? Is Ninjak still working for MI-6? What's up with him and Livewire? These questions aren't addressed so we wait for issue 18 I guess. Also the ending will need to be addressed at some point. What happened to that thing that I don't want to spoil. Read Full Review

Good stuff all around that now has me wary as it moves into an arc involving the Eternal Warrior, a character I haven't read combined with a future from Book of Death that I know little about. Read Full Review

Comics Bulletin - Daniel Gehen Jul 16, 2016

Ninjak #17 effectively brings "The Siege of King's Castle" to a close while tying up the few remaining threads that have been left dangling since the series' debut issue. Moreover, it wipes the titular character's slate clean for the future of the series " an exciting proposition for a character with a nonexistent cultural footprint. Though Valiant continues to build its "superhero" universe, it is not tethered to the "illusion of change" that readers demand of their Big Two titles. While the publisher's output " including this issue " is of consistently high quality, hopefully they find the courage to push themselves beyond what their competitors are willing to do. There also some good ideas and concepts I saw that were drawn from ancient mythology along with classic and contemporary comic ideas. I can't say if I'd keep reading this, but since it's a unique concept and story, I would like to see how this evolves. Read Full Review

It's the type of issue that even if you weren't following the arc, the recap at the beginning helps immensely, you'd get sucked into this death match regardless. More than anything by the end, you want more. The next arc involves another Valiant character, Eternal Warrior, so the storyline will pivot with the crossover, but if this is the type of action we can expect I'm here for it. Read Full Review

I hate reviewing the end of an arc. I never know whether or not to spoil the shit out of it or just hold back like I've done here. It's why I skip them. It's not to hold back attention from the issue, but as a courtesy I chose not to spoil it for readers. At the end of the day, my goal with any review is to give you info on why you should or shouldn't read it and you decide from there. If I spoil it all you don't have much of a reason to check it out. Hopefully this review still convinced you to check it out and really the entire "Siege on King's Castle" storyline. Read Full Review

Ninjak #17 is good, but nothing to write home about. The art is rich, deeply colored, and smooth, providing an extremely pleasant visual experience for the reader. The climax of the "Siege of King's Castle" storyline is satisfactory, and while definitely enjoyable, isn't likely to leave any lasting impressions on its audience, which can partially be blamed on a failure to focus on the relatable aspects of Ninjak himself.
