We are finally getting answers of a kind, although they don't quite make sense. Still, there seems still to be secrets within secrets, and troubles within troubles. One cannot help but believe that, in part, the story is convoluted for the sake of being convoluted, but the premise is intriguing enough to earn the creative team the benefit of the doubt a while longer. But patience can wear thin very quickly, and it will soon be time for simple answers in this complex tale. Read Full Review

There are more layers to Bunn's story than there initially appeared to be. That being said, the constant shifting between time periods gets to be a little hectic and the twists and turns are happening too fast. Read Full Review

Overall, this book has impressed me enough the last two issues to keep getting it after I'd decided to drop it. That speaks really well of it right there. I'm curious to see where it goes next. Read Full Review

Aquaman #42 is a number of missed opportunities. It tries to do something different, but what it gets is something far too similar to a number of other books. The rogue hero on the run is nothing special. The "then/now" narrative has been used countless times (Superboy, Batwoman, Captain Marvel, Wolverine, and Justice League United to name a few) and rarely does it elevate the story. McCarthy provides some interesting layouts, particularly in his two-page spreads and boasts from fun sea creature designs, but it's not enough to patch the other holes in Aquaman's story. I typically enjoy Bunn's writing but "Aquaman" #42 is a mess. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Eric Shea Jul 23, 2015

Aquaman has a new look and a new mission, but I really don't know what any of that means because besides for what feels like only an initial idea about what this arc should be, this story doesn't seem to be going anywhere.  Pretty much if you read the previous issue, you're caught up on all the information that you'll get here.  Just a really disappointing issue with equally disappointing art.  Hopefully this series picks up from here on out because as of right now, this story does nothing for me.
