Upon uncovering a mystery involving ancient relics, Batman must battle against Talia al Ghul and the League of Shadows for control of a dangerous weapon. As court magician John Constantine whispers in the ear of Queen Victoria, and Professor Adam Strange explores the farthest reaches of the Antarctic, the strange rumors they're all chasing about the lost Kryptonian Age of mankind begin to take on the ring of truth...
If you're still holding out on this run, I strongly encourage you to give it a chance. While Andy Diggle is still unfolding the layers of this epic superhero mystery, he's clearly got more than a few twists and surprises in store, and I cannot wait to see where it goes. This is an issue so good, it reminds you what makes comics awesome in the first place. Read Full Review
The second issue of Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age is a remarkable feat of both storytelling and artwork. Blockbuster storytelling in no rush to get to the big reveal, issue #2 is filled with action and surprises as the Victorian take on the DCU continues to expand its already global scope. I'll admit that this is a fascinating issue, one that touches on some of the eldritch and pulp leanings of the "Gotham by Gaslight" world, but also suggests that things are more complex than meets the eye. Read Full Review
So far, this event is almost claustrophobic in its intensity, which is a great way to set the scales and establish why Waller might be a bigger threat than the last alien invasion. Read Full Review
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight The Kryptonian Age #2 builds off the mystique of issue #1 as the team delivers a cinematic feeling mixed with intense action sequences and introduces compelling and interesting characters. This issue has fully sucked me in as I cannot wait to see where we go as it appears they will not be staying in Gothams playground only. Read Full Review
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age is Andy Diggle further expanding the world of Earth-19 and continues the slow burn of the story, introducing this Earth's versions of well-known character, while at the same time building the mystery and groundwork for the reveal of what the Kryptonian Age is and why so many different factions want to control and possess the artifacts from it. Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age #2 is an immensely enjoyable comic that offers a serious bang for your buck. Every panel offers unique colors and art that helps to paint a real picture of a well-developed world. More characters are slowly filling this universe, and the growing sense of mysticism and magic seriously adds to an otherwise melancholy reality. It's always fun to see the Elseworlds franchises grow, and Gotham by Gaslight is getting more rewarding with each passing page. Read Full Review
Fernandez does a fantastic job of capturing the look of the previous adventures in this world while giving this one a unique and compelling look. A wonderfully detailed and visually engaging story. Read Full Review
The issue features a surprise appearance by a familiar character, shrouded in mystery as well as another to end the issue. This character's arrival hints at a potential connection to the League of Shadows and the Kryptonian threat showcasing just how masterful Diggle is a weaving together our classic DC characters in this Victorian Era. While their identity remains a secret, their presence adds a layer of intrigue and speculation for longtime fans of the Batman mythos. Read Full Review
Okay...Batman: Gotham By Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age #2 is the first issue where we get a mention of the World's Finest. Now, is that the third member of the Trinity we see clues dropped on us? Green Blood? These artists have their finger on the pulse of the Gaslight era. However, the last frame of the comic will make me mark my calendar for the next issue! Read Full Review
More of a mixed bag this time. I am intrigued by all the story elements, really I am. They just move on too quickly for me to be invested in any great detail. The art is fantastic and a good-looking book will keep me reading. You need good writing to make it memorable. Reading this asAbsolute Powercomes out is quite fitting. Good-looking books, with writing that lets it down. I know set-ups can be a risky bet. Here's hoping the next one can cash in the chips. Read Full Review
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight - The Kryptonian Age #2 starts the downward trend from mildly interesting in issue #1 to confusing, frustrating, and boring in issue #2. Leandro Fernandez's art is solid, and the number of Victorian-era cameos have potential, but the plot is a muddled chore. Read Full Review
Maybe better than Dark Knights of steel.
Delving a little more into the lore in this issue. I still have no idea how we jumped from Constantine's meeting with the Queen after taking out her guards, to him getting hanged. How did that happen. He took out her guards. He should have been in on the charade, that would have answered that absurd jump. The fight scene on the train was good and him falling through the window into the seance and saying "Go to church," was humerous.
