Black boots trudge across yellow sands. Grit-laced winds flutter through a tattered cape. Dreamlike mirages of past, present, and hypothetical futures ripple across the sunbaked landscape, the mystery of their appearance only equaled by the question of their existence. This is the Dark Knight's world now, but it doesn't have to be. He can save himself from this dry limbo and return to his city...or can he? Batman's mind and body may never be the same in this harrowing, hallucinatory, and hypnotic tale.
Detective Comics #1083 is another great chapter in an ongoing epic that'll surely go down as one of the best story arcs in the series ever. The questions of identity, psychology, and what is real are all in question as characters in both the main story and backup story struggle to find truth. This is a masterful psychodrama with twists and turns no one could anticipate. Read Full Review
From start to finish, there is a lot to appreciate about what the entire team has put together. Granted, readers who have been following the series will have the most enjoymentbut this story has been worth investing in as the saga continues to get better and better. Read Full Review
Both artists deliver some beautifully detailed art. The Batman side of the story is filled with brilliant, ethereal imagery while the Montoya side of the story is filled with great noir-style visuals that are perfect for a detective story. Read Full Review
This finale to the “Elegy of Sand” intermission acts as a celebration of Batman and an affirmation of his values. By pitting him against his antithesis in the Orghams and Dr. Hurt's mind games, the story digs deep into what makes him work as a character and uncovers a more holistic person in the process. The arguments presented confront real world critiques of Batman through an organic yet compelling narrative. Ram V manages to skillfully weave heady ideas about who Batman is into this thrilling triumph. Read Full Review
I did feel like this mini-arc perhaps stretched a bit too much, with the involvement of Dr. Hurt seemingly slotted in as a late addition, but once again Ram V brings everything together to a satisfactory conclusion. Read Full Review

Detective Comics #1083 is an issue that's worth a miss. just my opinion. Read Full Review
Detective Comics #1083 brings Batman's journey of the mind to an end just in time to return to Gotham with allies and evidence to take the Orghams down. From the inconsistent art to the pointless mind journey to the ridiculous backup, this comic is a waste from start to finish. Read Full Review
The end of what we presume is the penultimate arc of Gotham Nocturne spends all of its creators' considerable creative energies on creating intense emotional experiences for the reader - but without any effort at creating an internally coherent world for the characters to inhabit, there's not weight to any of it, and it all floats away from the memory like a puff of useless smoke. "I am BATMAN. I will stand again".
The chills. This run is everything a modern batman story should be. Detailed. Depthful. Dark. Ambitious, defiant. But understanding and intelligent.
This is going to be a legendary run for the character. I mean that. This is a classic in the making and you need to be there to see the last ride and the curtains close on this Gotham Nocturne play.
Even the backups are phenomenal. The Question side story being the best pitch for a new question book in ages.
So so good.
Oh my gosh I love this! I really loved the monologue about not winning, but trying, and the Superman comparison. The story in Gotham is kicking-ass, and I'm happy to see Gordon again. That ending was a wham shot. The back-up continues to be horrifying in all the right ways, and the art continues to be breathtaking. I am going to re-read it several times because the writing is just really beautiful and quotable: "the greatest weapon they wielded was to tell a lie everyone wanted to believe."
Ram V's "Elegy of Sand" continues in Detective Comics #1083 with the arc’s best issue to date. This latest installment maintains V’s operatic narrative that has defined the arc so far & finally ratchets this arc into an exciting territory.
Once again, V balances the story between Batman's struggle against Doctor Hurt's insidious mental manipulations & The Question's quest to expose the Orghams for the evil frauds they are & finally seek revenge for her fellow officers. Even though these two narratives have felt a bit disparate in the past, they come crashing into each other by the end of the issue.
In Batman’s story, we witness the Caped Crusader trapped in the same desolate dreamscape, forced to confront twiste more
This has been dragging on for too long. I was loving this arc, but it's gone on for...how long?
The sojourn into the desert should have been much shorter. Glad his return to Gotham only took 1 page.
I was like the Question's side story. Having Batman come in is kinda fun. I like the Dr Hurt ministory.
This runs been so brutally repetitive and boring which continues here but I give him some credit for a few nice lines and at least moving the story forward (or so I hope).
