Just when things couldn't look any darker after the death and chaos of the Sciencell riot, Blackest Night descends on Oa! The black rings tear into the planet and the Lantern Crypt causing all the dead Corps members to rise and wreak havoc as a new and deadlier battle threatens to engulf not only the Corps, but the Universe itself!
We're only one month into the "Blackest Night" storyline, but I already like Green Lantern Corps' addition to the plot more than either Green Lantern or the Blackest Night mini. Once again Tomasi continues to juggle multiple storylines as Arisia learns why Sodam hated his people, Kryb’s children cry out in her absence and Mongul makes Krougar his base of operations as he names his followers the Mongul Corps. I can tell that there is going to be plenty of back and forth between the different stories until ultimately they all intersect. It is going to be interesting to see if Tomasi can manage to give most of the Green Lanterns equal attention, balance the other plotlines and make the story work as a whole. Honestly he is not off to a bad start. Since the Sinestro Corps War every issue he has written has slowly built onto the next. Guy, Kyle, Natu, Arisia, Sodam and Mongul all have been spotlighted over the past few months so maybe soon we will find out where he has been leading us. Read Full Review

Overall, all of DC Comics readers eyes are on Blackest Night, and with the popularity of The Sinestro Corps War, Green Lantern Rebirth, and Green Lantern Secret Origin, we can be sure that DC Comics is going to do everything it can to capitalize on this current Green Lantern event. So far this event has been interesting, but so far weve really only gotten a great deal of really good art and creepy zombie Lanterns, where we need to start getting a story behind these resurrections that lives up to the level of the art. This one is a mixed bag. You get some strong character moments and a few great scenes from the writing and an uneven showing from the art. There is a lot to like, but just as much that will make you cringe. It's fun to see the rise of the formerly Green, now Black Lanterns, but some of that fun is spoiled by the execution. If this had come out the same week as Blackest Night #1, I'd probably be more enthusiastic about the issue, but a month later seeing the same content from the first issue of the event, on the same day as the second issue comes out, is a bit trying. Nothing was followed up on in issue two of Blackest Night either, so I assume we'll have to wait yet another month for the follow up. Read Full Review
