This issue most likely serves as a turning point in the Corps' involvement against the Black Lanterns. While Oa has been under siege for months now (or maybe days in comic book time) this issue delivers of the promise of "nothing will ever be the same." With the surprise appearance of one of the fan favorite Lanterns at the end of this issue, I greatly look forward to how Tomasi sees fit to tell a bigger or better story than the one delivered here. This issue is part of the "Blackest Night" event, but it isn't overwhelmed by the event. At no point does this comic ever stop telling the story of the Green Lantern Corps. Read Full Review

Green Lantern Corps #43 is a fine book telling the story of a military unit in the middle of the biggest damn war anyone has ever seen. It has both a microscopic emotional feel and a macroscopic epic feel. Pick it up. It's worth the price of admission! Read Full Review

In the last few years Peter Tomasi really has built a wonderful home for the Green Lantern Corps. Everything that has happened in the past has built up to this moment and beyond. Miri returns to shine violet light in Kyle and Soranik's life once again, Guy finally loses control of his anger and we get more brief appearances from Vath and Isamot. There is no way I cannot say something about Patrick Gleason's art. He has kept a great consistency with his art work but I can tell the deadlines are tight and not for the reason you think. Normally Gleason has a real playful and exploratory style to his panels. In this issue we get two pages of this as Guy forces the Black Lanterns to feel his rage but every other panel in this issue is straight forward and square with many one third page panels. Again there is nothing wrong with this but it does stray from some of the zany and wacky angles and shots Gleason usually provides. The best thing I can say about this issue, other than to once again praise the art of Patrick Gleason (his work in the Guy-as-Red-Lantern sequence is quite stunning), is to say that even in the midst of a crossover as big as Blackest Night, this series continues to feel like it's own story first and foremost. Developments, as cheesy and unfortunate as they are, reach back far before Blackest Night began. And more so than its sister title, Green Lantern proper, Green Lantern Corps has managed to maintain an identity throughout this event. In this latest case, it just isn't a very favorable one. Patrick Gleason busts out a fine twenty-odd pages of art here, with some gorgeous panels throughout (notably the arrival of the Red Lantern ring, and Mojos reveal) and Pete Tomasi does good work with a big canvas and a lot of players on the field. Read Full Review

This issue, paired with the previous one, makes for a good one-two punch, but this issue on its own merit leaves too many oddities to raise it above the level of ‘good'. It's an entertaining and delivers its part in the long line of this series' overall terrific storytelling. Read Full Review

Meh. It’s a C, but a very solid C that could’ve borderlined on C+ or even B- if not for the fact that this title often feels like 10 pounds of crap stuffed in a 5 pound bag. As I said earlier, as solid of a writer as Tomasi is (and credit should also be given to talented penciller Patrick Gleason, even if he does make Kyle look too much like Keanu Reeves), Green Lantern Corps often feels like the runoff book. “We gotta make sure these certain story elements get introduced, but Johns doesn’t have time or space to do it in the GL book. Tomasi! Here’s a list of things you have to include.” It’s fun and exciting and if you like Green Lantern, it’s definitely worth reading; just not so much with this one. But a C is a passing grade.
