With the election in chaos and a Congress mired in corruption, Twitter sensation @corndoggirl becomes the first teenaged President of the United States!
With a real Presidential election going on that seems more and more like the world Russell is depicting, you have to wonder is he actually writing thoughtful satire, or is he just ahead of the times? A great read for those who care even a little about the political world around them. Read Full Review
Prez is a masterpiece, an outright triumph of the new age of DC Comics and one of the best comics youll read all year. The comedy is fun, the commentary insightful and passionate, and the world and characters deeply engaging, well written, ad beautifully drawn. If this really is the face of everything the DC You could accomplish going forward then the future is very bright for them indeed. Read Full Review
I'm in for the long hall, and I recommend that you pick this series up while you can. Read Full Review
There's so much packed into every page of this comic. A lot of the humor comes from what's visual and/or what's in the background, swirling around the characters who are oblivious to the absurdity of their world. Some of it's basic sci-fi stuff" the people have implants that produce heads-up displays instead of carrying around a smartphone, for example. Other times it's pretty biting satire" the advertisements that follow the people through the hospital unless you opt-out for fifty dollars. Read Full Review
Prez #2 is another solid issue of this mini-series, keeping up the fun cleverness of the first issue. The writing, the main character, and artwork are all on point and make this such a fun experience. Its only problem is its slow pace and overblown nature, which may not bother everyone ultimately. Still highly recommended and worth your time. Read Full Review
With a surprising debut issue, Issue #2 of Prez proves that this can still deliver. We see more satire coming from the politicians and the society they live in. We see the most normal character Beth cope with a loss, but then gets elected into the presidency, we will see how she manages that. Read Full Review
With their second issue of Prez, Mark Russell and Ben Caldwell have further perfected their out-of-control world, as high schooler Beth Ross unwittingly ascends to the highest office in the land. Packed with cynical backroom dealing and outlandish takes on journalism, medicine and technology, Prez succeeds not just because of its skewering of American politics, but because it's also one of the funniest books on the stands. All-in-all, this is a strong second issue. It's fun, clever and on point. Still a bit slow-moving but definitely worth the read. Read Full Review
If you combined the political wheeling and dealing of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln with the kooky, near future landscape of Transmetropolitan, you'd arrive at Prez #2. Read Full Review
There's so many good things to say about Prez #2, it's absurd. Our heroine has barely even done anything yet, but I'm delighted by this world and her place in it. I've already fallen in love, and find myself dragging my tired brain from month to month in wait for the next installment. If you read only one DC title this summer, folks, it damned well better be Prez. Read Full Review
The problem with bringing any substantial criticisms to bear againstPrez is that all, or at least most, of the book's issues can be attributed to the fact that the book is still getting off the ground and finding its footing. The second issue of the series is a little bit less about that than the first, but there's still a lot of set up going on in this issue. Some of it is incidental to the rest of the story, but a lot of it isn't. Again, this can be excused as growing pains for the creative team as they grow into this new book. Fortunately, the book does have more than just promise, in this issue it begins to deliver on that promise. For now, it being a fun romp with a decent amount of depth is enough to keep the book going for some time. IfPrezcontinues on this trend, it could easily become one of DC's best books, which, considering the overall quality of their soft reboot, has a lot of credence. Read Full Review
Another disappointment is Caldwell's art. It's normally stellar, but there are obvious signs of rushed artwork in Prez #2. Characters and pages get a little sloppy, especially towards the end, and that's a damn shame at only the second issue. Read Full Review
I really want to like this book, but that will only happen if Russell and Caldwell can focus on Beth Ross as a person. Read Full Review
Hilarious
A hilarious demonstration of money in politics with a genuinely heartbreaking scene to ground everything. The best thing out of DC this month by far, more people need to support this book.
Funny as hell, and that's tough to do in a comic book. Pretty on point satire, good characters and art and corndoggirl's dad steals the show with his inspiring commentary. Love this series.
