But Why Tho? - William Tucker Mar 5, 2025

Secret Six Issue 1 is a terrific progression of Maines writing. With newer characters getting involved and such powerful emotional dialogue, it demonstrates the writers willingness to push the stakes, make readers uncomfortable, and introduce new techniques. Read Full Review

    Kabooooom - Matt Morrison Mar 6, 2025

The new Secret Six is a perfect successor to DC Comics' long tradition of covert heroes. If this first issue has a flaw, it is something of a slow start. The story focuses on half the team and we only see Deadshot and Catman on the final page. That being said, the story also hooks established fans while offering a welcome starting point for newcomers to these characters and the franchise. Read Full Review

Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield Mar 5, 2025

Any book with this title is going to have a big legacy to live up to given how beloved the original Gail Simone book is, but I think this is off to a strong start with a very compelling group of characters. Read Full Review

    Nerd Initiative - Ken M. Mar 5, 2025

With Amanda Waller off the grid, the DCU cant be safe. Maines welcomes readers into this combustible line-up with solid writing. Segovia and Beredo construct strong images as a reluctant team forms to deal with the root of many problems. Welcome Back Secret Six. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - Dispatchdcu Mar 5, 2025

Overall, Secret Six #1 is a promising start to a new limited series. It delivers a compelling mystery, engaging characters, and stunning artwork. The unique team dynamic and the exploration of secrets and traumas make it a must-read for fans of superhero comics and mystery thrillers. Nicole Maines's writing is a welcome addition to the DC Universe. Read Full Review

The Aspiring Kryptonian - David Beasley Mar 5, 2025

As first issues go, Secret Six #1 is pretty good. Things get set up rather quickly and a lot of questions are presented, making you want to come back for more. Obviously, I loved the art and it played no small part in my overall enjoyment of this first installment. Read Full Review

    AIPT - Collier Jennings Mar 5, 2025

Secret Six #1 offers a solid start to the new incarnation of its titular antihero team. Though the actual team building is light, the character work and art more than make up for it and the ending promises plenty of chaos to come. Read Full Review

Graphic Policy - Logan Dalton Mar 9, 2025

If you like heroes on the anti- and/or queer side, then the new Secret Six series by Nicole Maines and Stephen Segovia is worth picking up. I didn't follow the Absolute Power event so I was lost at some parts, but enjoyed the scenes where Jon Kent and Gossamer were having boyfriend spats. Read Full Review

Comic Watch - Theron Couch Mar 5, 2025

Secret Six #1 looks like the first issue to yet another reluctant hero/villain team-up book. It doesnt take long to see how much more is at work between its pages. Certainly thats the basic concept at work here. But what sets Secret Six #1 apart and makes it worth the price of admission is its serious consideration of these characters traumas rather than any superheroing they do. Read Full Review

Weird Science - Gabe Hernandez Mar 5, 2025

Secret Six #1has the making of a cool idea about a team coming together to hunt down an escaped supervillain. Nicole Maines's script has most of the right parts to tell a gripping story, and Stephen Segovia's work is awesome (naturally), but the script suffers from poor choices by the characters, lots of annoying bickering, and forced coincidences. Screaming Enigma Mar 29, 2025

A pretty solid start here with some nice art from Segovia, in my opinion. The main thing I wanted to mention about this comes from the interaction between Dreamer and Black Alice while the latter is imprisoned. That was just a crazy clock from Alice talking about "preferred names."

A real chore to get through. Jay Nakamura may be my version of Paul from amazing spidey for the DCU. Dollar bin fodder for sure.

The strongest part of this issue is Jon’s concern for Jay. Like Jay or not, like Jay and Jon as a couple or not, the concern Jon feels for Jay is something that is relatable to everyone. Despite having no affection for Absolute Power or Amanda Waller as a major villain, the mystery is of her escape is pretty strong. There are aspects of this issue that feel very niche and that will play differently to different people, but in and of itself it’s not a bad thing. One of the things that does stand out is that Nia, Jay and Black Alice (and the barely seen Catman and Deadshot) all seem to be played with a sense of the anti-hero…or “broken” hero (yes, some of them are 100% anti-heroes/ villains). Jon’s place with them is fairly a more

I was a big fan of the Secret Six, but for me, this will be the first and last issue. Extremely mediocre, with uninteresting characters and a team that, unlike the original Secret Six, doesn’t feel like it works. At some point, they need to stop giving comics to mediocre writers who wouldn’t be able to sell a thousand copies even if their life depended on it.
